Yusuf Verse 30

Some women of the city gossiped, “The Chief Minister’s wife is trying to seduce her slave-boy. Love for him has plagued her heart. Indeed, we see that she is clearly mistaken.”[[ The women’s only objection was because the wife of the Chief Minister was in love with someone raised in her house like a son. ]]

Some women in the city said, “The chief minister’s wife is trying to seduce her slave-boy; his love has overwhelmed her heart. We see that she is clearly mistaken.”

Certain women that were in the city said, 'The Governor's wife has been soliciting her page; he smote her heart with love; we see her in manifest error.

Some women of the city said, ‘The governor’s wife is trying to seduce her slave! Love for him consumes her heart! It is clear to us that she has gone astray.’

And women in the city said; the wife of the AZiZ hath solicited her page against himself; he hath inflamed her with love; verily we behold her in error manifest.

Ladies said in the City; "The wife of the (great) 'Aziz is seeking to seduce her slave from his (true) self; Truly hath he inspired her with violent love; we see she is evidently going astray."

And some ladies in the city began to say: "The chief's wife, violently in love with her houseboy, is out to tempt him. We think she is clearly mistaken."

In the city the women gossiped: "The minister's wife longs after her page. He has captured her heart. We think she is in clear error."

And some women of the city said, “The governor’s wife is seducing her young slave; indeed his love has taken root in her heart; and we find her clearly lost.”

Some of the townswomen said, ‘The chieftain’s wife has solicited her slave boy! He has captivated her love. Indeed we see her to be in manifest error.’

Women (gossiping) in the city said: "The minister’s wife has sought to enjoy herself by her slave-boy. Certainly it (her desire for him) has pierced her heart with love. We see that she has plainly lost her wits and her way."

And the women talked in the city, `The wife of the ´Azîz (- Potiphar, the captain of king´s guard) seeks to seduce her young slave against his will. His love has indeed penetrated deep in her heart. Indeed, we see her in obvious error (in going too far in her love).´

And women in the city/town said: "Elaziz/the Egyptian ruler`s woman (wife) seduces/entices her youth/slave/servant from himself, he had affected her deeply/deeply impassioned her lovingly , that157we see/understand her (E) in evident misguidance."

And some women of the city said, "The governor’s wife is seducing her young slave; indeed his love has taken root in her heart; and we find her clearly lost."

"O Joseph! Turn aside from this (pass it over). And do you, woman, ask pardon for your fault; for truly, you are of the sinful."

And women in the city said: "The wife of Al-'Aziz is seeking to seduce her (slave) young man, indeed she loves him violently; verily we see her in plain error."

O Joseph, turn aside from this. And (O my wife), ask forgiveness for thy sin. Surely thou are one of the sinful.

And women in the city said: The chiefs wife seeks her slave to yield himself (to her), surely he has affected her deeply with (his) love; most surely we see her in manifest error.

And women in the city said: The ruler's wife is asking of her slave-boy an ill-deed. Indeed he has smitten her to the heart with love. We behold her in plain aberration.

Some of the women in the town started to gossip saying, "The King's wife has tried to seduce her servant and has fallen madly in love with him. We think that she is in manifest error".

Certain women in the city said: 'The Governor's wife has sought to seduce her servant. He has made her heart stricken with love for him. Clearly, we perceive her to be in error'

And women in the city said: "The wife of the `Aziz is seeking to seduce her (slave) young man, indeed she loves him violently; verily, we see her in plain error."

Women in the town began to gossip, "The nobleman's wife is trying to seduce her slave! Love for him consumes her heart! Indeed! We see her in manifest error."

Some ladies in the city said, “The governor's wife is trying to seduce her servant. She is deeply in love with him. We see she has gone astray.”

And some of the women in the city, the city of Egypt, said, `The Court Officer's wife has been seducing her boy, her servant. Indeed he has smitten her heart with love, (hubban is for specification, in other words, `[her] love of him has entered her heart's pericardium (shaghfa qalbih), that is, its inner casing). Lo! we see her to be in plain aberration', that is, in error evident, in her love of him.

The News reaches Women in the City, Who also plot against Yusuf

Allah states that the news of what happened between the wife of the `Aziz and Yusuf spread in the city, that is, Egypt, and people talked about it,

وَقَالَ نِسْوَةٌ فِي الْمَدِينَةِ

And women in the city said...,

such as women of chiefs and princes said, while admonishing and criticizing the wife of the Aziz,

امْرَأَةُ الْعَزِيزِ تُرَاوِدُ فَتَاهَا عَن نَّفْسِهِ

The wife of the Aziz is seeking to seduce her (slave) young man,

she is luring her servant to have sex with her,

قَدْ شَغَفَهَا حُبًّا

indeed she loves him violently;

her love for him filled her heart and engulfed it,

إِنَّا لَنَرَاهَا فِي ضَلَلٍ مُّبِينٍ



verily, we see her in plain error.

by loving him and trying to seduce him
