And were saying, "Are we to leave our gods for a mad poet?" (As-Saffat [37] : 36)

And (they) said: "Are we going to abandon our gods for the sake of a mad poet"

and replied, "Shall we then give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?"

And said, “Are we to abandon our gods for a mad poet?”
26 Tafsir jalalayn
and would say, `Are we to abandon our gods for a mad poet?', that is, for the sake of what Muhammad (s) says? (as regards the hamzas [in a-inn, `are we'], the same applies as mentioned above).
27 Tafseer Ibn Kathir
Truly, when it was said to them;"La ilaha illallah," they puffed themselves up with pride. And (they) said;"Are we going to abandon our gods for the sake of a mad poet!"
meaning, `Shall we stop worshipping our gods and the gods of our forefathers just because of the words of this mad poet' -- meaning the Messenger of Allah.
Allah said in refutation of their attitude
28 Almuntakhab Fi Tafsir Alquran Alkarim
And they expressed their thoughts in words, thus: "shall we" they said, "forsake our gods on account of what has been said by whom we hold certainly a demoniac
