As-Saffat Verse 64

Indeed, it is a tree that grows in the depths of Hell,

It is a tree that grows in the bottom of the Blazing Fire;

It is a tree that comes forth in the root of Hell;

This tree grows in the heart of the blazing Fire,

Verily it is a tree that springeth forth in the bottom of Flaming Fire.

For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-Fire;

It is a tree that grows in the nethermost part of Hell.

It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell.

Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell.

It is a tree that rises from the depths of hell.

It is a tree growing in the heart of the Blazing Flame.

It is a tree which springs forth from the bottom of Hell.

That it is a tree it emerges in the Hell`s source/root

Indeed it is a tree that sprouts from the base of hell.

Surely it is a tree that grows in the bottom of hell

Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire,

Surely We have made it a trial for the wrongdoers.

Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell;

Lo! it is a tree that springeth in the heart of hell.

(Zaqqum) is a tree which grows from the deepest part of hell,

It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell;

Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire,

For it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hellfire:

It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell.

Indeed it is a tree that comes forth from the very source of Hell, in other words, from the depths of Hell, with its branches extending up through all its [different] levels.

Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire.

meaning, it is nourished by the fire, for it was created from fire."

Mujahid said;
إِنَّا جَعَلْنَاهَا فِتْنَةً لِّلظَّالِمِينَ
(Truly, We have made it (as) a trial for the wrongdoers).

Abu Jahl, may Allah curse him, said, "Zaqqum means dates and butter which I eat (Atazaqqamuhu)."

I say that the meaning of the Ayah is,

"We have told you, O Muhammad, of the tree of Zaqqum as a trial with which We test the people to see who will believe and who will disbelieve."

This is like the Ayah;

وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الرُّءْيَا الَّتِى أَرَيْنَـكَ إِلاَّ فِتْنَةً لِّلنَّاسِ وَالشَّجَرَةَ الْمَلْعُونَةَ فِى القُرْءَانِ وَنُخَوِّفُهُمْ فَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلاَّ طُغْيَانًا كَبِيرًا

And We made not the vision which we showed you but a trial for mankind, and the accursed tree in the Qur'an. We warn and make them afraid but it only increases them in naught save great disbelief, oppression and disobedience to Allah. (17;60)

إِنَّهَا شَجَرَةٌ تَخْرُجُ فِي أَصْلِ الْجَحِيم

Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire.

means, its roots grow at the bottom of Hell.

طَلْعُهَا كَأَنَّهُ رُوُوسُ الشَّيَاطِينِ

It is a tree springing up from the pit in the abysm of Hell
