Taha Verse 83

˹Allah asked,˺ “Why have you come with such haste ahead of your people, O  Moses?”[[ Moses selected a delegation of seventy people from his community to go to Mount Ṭûr where it was appointed for him to receive the Tablets. On the way, he rushed for the appointment with Allah, arriving before the delegation. ]]

[Allah asked], “What made you hasten from your people, O Moses?”

'What has sped thee far from thy people, Moses?'

[God said], ‘Moses, what has made you come ahead of your people in such haste?’

And what hath made thee hasten from thy people, O Musa?

(When Moses was up on the Mount, Allah said;) "What made thee hasten in advance of thy people, O Moses?"

"But, O Moses, what has made you come in haste from your people?"

What made you hurry away, O Moses, from your people?"

“And why did you come in haste ahead of your people, O Moosa?”

[God said,] ‘O Moses, what has prompted you to hasten ahead of your people?’

(When Moses came to Our appointment with him in Mount Sinai to receive the Torah, We asked him:) "Moses, what has caused you to leave your people behind in such haste?"

(When Moses went to the Mount, God said,) `Moses! what has made you depart from your people in such haste?´

And what made you hurry/hasten on from your nation, you Moses?

“And why did you come in haste ahead of your people, O Moosa?”

"Yet am I also He who forgives unto him who repents and believes and does right, and then is guided.

"And what made you hasten from your people, O Musa (Moses)?"

And surely I am Forgiving toward him who repents and believes and does good, then walks aright.

And what caused you to hasten from your people, O Musa?

And (it was said): What hath made thee hasten from thy folk, O Moses?

The Lord asked, "Moses, what made you attend your appointment with Me before your people?"

'Moses, why have you come with such haste from your nation'

"And what made you hasten from your people, O Musa

[When Moses was upon the Mount, God said,] "O Moses, why have you come with such haste from your people?"

“And what made you rush ahead of your people, O Moses?”

`And what has hurried you [to depart] from your people, in order to come to the appointed time to receive the Torah, O Moses?'

Musa goes to the Appointment with Allah and the Children of Israel succumb to worship the Calf

Allah relates what happened when Musa traveled with the Children of Israel after Fir`awn's destruction.

فَأَتَوْاْ عَلَى قَوْمٍ يَعْكُفُونَ عَلَى أَصْنَامٍ لَّهُمْ قَالُواْ يَمُوسَى اجْعَلْ لَّنَأ إِلَـهًا كَمَا لَهُمْ ءَالِهَةٌ قَالَ إِنَّكُمْ قَوْمٌ تَجْهَلُونَ

إِنَّ هَـوُلاء مُتَبَّرٌ مَّا هُمْ فِيهِ وَبَـطِلٌ مَّا كَانُواْ يَعْمَلُونَ

And they came upon a people devoted to some of idols. They said;"O Musa! Make for us god as they have gods." He said;"Verily, you are a people who know not. Verily, these people will be destroyed for that which they are engaged in. And all that they are doing is in vain." (7;138-139)

Then, Allah made a covenant with Musa of thirty nights after which He added to them ten more nights. Thus, they were forty nights in all. The covenant was that he was to fast these number of days, during both the day and night. Thus, Musa made haste to go to the Mountain and he left his brother, Harun, in charge over the Children of Israel.

This is why Allah says,

وَمَا أَعْجَلَكَ عَن قَوْمِكَ يَا مُوسَى
