Ali 'Imran Verse 92

You will never achieve righteousness until you donate some of what you cherish. And whatever you give is certainly well known to Allah.

You will never attain righteousness until you spend in charity from what you love. Whatever you spend, Allah is All-Knowing of it.

You will not attain piety until you expend of what you love; and whatever thing you expend, God knows of it.

None of you [believers] will attain true piety unless you give out of what you cherish: whatever you give, God knows about it very well.

O Ye shall not attain unto virtue until ye expend of that which ye love; and whatsoever ye expend, verily Allah Is thereof Knower.

By no means shall ye attain righteousness unless ye give (freely) of that which ye love; and whatever ye give, of a truth Allah knoweth it well.

You shall not attain righteousness until you spend out of what you love (in the way of Allah). Allah knows whatever you spend.

You will never come to piety unless you spend of things you love; and whatever you spend is known to God.

You can never attain virtue until you spend in Allah's cause the things you love; and Allah is Aware of whatever you spend.

You will never attain piety until you spend out of what you hold dear, and whatever you may spend of anything, Allah indeed knows it.

You will never be able to attain godliness and virtue until you spend of what you love (in God’s cause or to provide sustenance for the needy). Whatever you spend, God has full knowledge of it.

Never shall you attain the highest state of virtue unless you spend (in the cause of Allâh) out of that which you love; and whatever you spend, Allâh, indeed, knows it well.

You will never/not obtain the righteousness/charitability until you spend from what you love/like, and what you spend from a thing, so then God (is) with it knowledgeable.

You can never attain virtue until you spend in Allah´s cause the things you love; and Allah is Aware of whatever you spend.

All food was lawful to the children of Israel save what Israel made unlawful to itself before the Torah was revealed. Say, "Bring the Torah and recite it, if you speak the truth."

By no means shall you attain Al-Birr (piety, righteousness, etc., it means here Allah's Reward, i.e. Paradise), unless you spend (in Allah's Cause) of that which you love; and whatever of good you spend, Allah knows it well.

Those who disbelieve and die while they are disbelievers, the earth full of gold will not be accepted from one of them, though he should offer it as ransom. These it is for whom is a painful chastisement, and they shall have no helpers.

By no means shall you attain to righteousness until you spend (benevolently) out of what you love; and whatever thing you spend, Allah surely knows it.

Ye will not attain unto piety until ye spend of that which ye love. And whatsoever ye spend, Allah is Aware thereof.

You can never have extended virtue and righteousness unless you spend part of what you dearly love for the cause of God. God knows very well whatever you spend for His cause.

You shall not attain righteousness until you spend of what you love. Whatever you spend is known to Allah.

By no means shall you attain Al-Birr, unless you spend of that which you love; and whatever of good you spend, Allah knows it well.

Never will you attain to righteousness unless you spend for the cause of God out of what you cherish; and whatever you spend is known to God.

You will not attain virtuous conduct until you give of what you cherish. Whatever you give away, God is aware of it.

You will not attain piety, that is, the reward for it, which is Paradise, until you expend, [until] you give voluntary alms, of what you love, of your wealth; and whatever thing you expend, God knows of it, and He will requite it accordingly.

Al-Birr is Spending from the Best of One's Wealth

Allah says,

لَن تَنَالُواْ الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنفِقُواْ مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ وَمَا تُنفِقُواْ مِن شَيْءٍ فَإِنَّ اللّهَ بِهِ عَلِيمٌ



By no means shall you attain Al-Birr, unless you spend of that which you love; and whatever of good you spend, Allah knows it well.

In his Tafsir, Waki reported, that `Amr bin Maymun said that
لَن تَنَالُواْ الْبِرَّ
(By no means shall you attain Al-Birr),

is in reference to attaining Paradise.

Imam Ahmad reported that Anas bin Malik said,

"Abu Talhah had more property than any other among the Ansar in Al-Madinah, and the most beloved of his property to him was Bayruha' garden, which was in front of the (Messenger's) Masjid. Sometimes, Allah's Messenger used to go to the garden and drink its fresh water." Anas added, "When these verses were revealed,
لَن تَنَالُواْ الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنفِقُواْ مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ
(By no means shall you attain Al-Birr unless You spend of that which you love), Abu Talhah said,

`O Allah's Messenger! Allah says,
لَن تَنَالُواْ الْبِرَّ حَتَّى تُنفِقُواْ مِمَّا تُحِبُّونَ
(By no means shall you attain Al-Birr, unless you spend of that which you love). No doubt, Bayruha' garden is the most beloved of all my property to me. So I want to give it in charity in Allah's cause, and I expect its reward and compensation from Allah. O Allah's Messenger! Spend it where Allah makes you think is feasible.'

On that, Allah's Messenger said,

بَخٍ بَخٍ ذَاكَ مَالٌ رَابِحٌ ذَاكَ مَالٌ رَابِحٌ وَقَدْ سَمِعْتُ وَأَنَا أَرَى أَنْ تَجْعَلَهَا فِي الاَْقْرَبِين

Well-done! It is profitable property, it is profitable property. I have heard what you have said, and I think it would be proper if you gave it to your kith and kin.

Abu Talhah said, `I will do so, O Allah's Messenger.'

Then Abu Talhah distributed that garden among his relatives and cousins."

This Hadith was recorded in the Two Sahihs.

They also recorded that Umar said,

"O Messenger of Allah! I never gained possession of a piece of property more precious to me than my share in Khyber. Therefore, what do you command me to do with it"

The Prophet said,

حَبِّسِ الاَْصْلَ وَسَبِّلِ الثَّمَرَة

Retain the land to give its fruits in Allah's cause.
