وَاِذَا تُتْلٰى عَلَيْهِمْ اٰيٰتُنَا قَالُوْا قَدْ سَمِعْنَا لَوْ نَشَاۤءُ لَقُلْنَا مِثْلَ هٰذَآ ۙاِنْ هٰذَآ اِلَّآ اَسَاطِيْرُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ ( الأنفال: ٣١ )
wa-idhā tut'lā
وَإِذَا تُتْلَىٰ
And when are recited
ഓതിക്കൊടുക്കപ്പെടുന്നതായാല്‍
ʿalayhim
عَلَيْهِمْ
to them
അവരുടെ മേല്‍, അവര്‍ക്കു
āyātunā
ءَايَٰتُنَا
Our Verses
നമ്മുടെ ആയത്തുകള്‍
qālū
قَالُوا۟
they say
അവര്‍ പറയും, പറയുകയായി
qad samiʿ'nā
قَدْ سَمِعْنَا
"Verily we have heard
ഞങ്ങള്‍ കേട്ടിട്ടുണ്ടു, കേട്ടുകഴിഞ്ഞു
law nashāu
لَوْ نَشَآءُ
if we wish
ഞങ്ങള്‍ ഉദ്ദേശിക്കുന്നതായാല്‍
laqul'nā
لَقُلْنَا
surely, we could say
ഞങ്ങള്‍ പറയുകതന്നെ ചെയ്തിരുന്നു
mith'la hādhā
مِثْلَ هَٰذَآۙ
like this
ഇതുപോലെ
in hādhā
إِنْ هَٰذَآ
Not is this
ഇതല്ല
illā asāṭīru
إِلَّآ أَسَٰطِيرُ
but tales
പുരാണകഥകള്‍ (ഐതിഹ്യങ്ങള്‍) അല്ലാതെ
l-awalīna
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
(of) the former (people)"
പൂര്‍വ്വികന്‍മാരുടെ
Wa izaa tutlaa 'alaihim Aayaatunaa qaaloo qad sami'naa law nashaaa'u laqulnaa misla haazaaa in haazaaa illaaa asaateerul awwaleen (al-ʾAnfāl 8:31)
English Sahih:
And when Our verses are recited to them, they say, "We have heard. If we willed, we could say [something] like this. This is not but legends of the former peoples." (Al-Anfal [8] : 31)
Karakunnu/Elayavoor (കാരകുന്ന് & എളയാവൂര്):
നമ്മുടെ വചനങ്ങള്‍ ഓതിക്കേള്‍പ്പിച്ചാല്‍ അവര്‍ പറയും: ''ഇതൊക്കെ ഞങ്ങളെത്രയോ കേട്ടതാണ്. ഞങ്ങളുദ്ദേശിക്കുകയാണെങ്കില്‍ ഇതുപോലെ ഞങ്ങളും പറഞ്ഞുതരുമായിരുന്നു. ഇത് പൂര്‍വികരുടെ പഴമ്പുരാണങ്ങളല്ലാതൊന്നുമല്ല.'' (അല്‍അന്‍ഫാല്‍ [8] : 31)
