اَفَاَصْفٰىكُمْ رَبُّكُمْ بِالْبَنِيْنَ وَاتَّخَذَ مِنَ الْمَلٰۤىِٕكَةِ اِنَاثًاۗ اِنَّكُمْ لَتَقُوْلُوْنَ قَوْلًا عَظِيْمًا ࣖ   ( الإسراء: ٤٠ )

afa-aṣfākum
أَفَأَصْفَىٰكُمْ
Then has your Lord chosen (for) you
rabbukum
رَبُّكُم
Then has your Lord chosen (for) you
bil-banīna
بِٱلْبَنِينَ
sons
wa-ittakhadha
وَٱتَّخَذَ
and He has taken
mina
مِنَ
from
l-malāikati
ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةِ
the Angels
ināthan
إِنَٰثًاۚ
daughters?
innakum
إِنَّكُمْ
Indeed, you
lataqūlūna
لَتَقُولُونَ
surely say
qawlan
قَوْلًا
a word
ʿaẓīman
عَظِيمًا
grave

Afa asfaakum rabbukum bilbaneena wattakhaza minal malaaa'ikati inaasaa; innakum lataqooloona qawlan 'azeema (al-ʾIsrāʾ 17:40)

Sahih International:

Then, has your Lord chosen you for [having] sons and taken [i.e., adopted] from among the angels daughters? Indeed, you say a grave saying. (Al-Isra [17] : 40)

Is it, then, that your Lord has chosen you people to have sons, and has Himself opted for females from among the angels? Surely, you are uttering a serious statement.
