An-Nisa Verse 163 | 4:163

۞ اِنَّآ اَوْحَيْنَآ اِلَيْكَ كَمَآ اَوْحَيْنَآ اِلٰى نُوْحٍ وَّالنَّبِيّٖنَ مِنْۢ بَعْدِهٖۚ وَاَوْحَيْنَآ اِلٰٓى اِبْرٰهِيْمَ وَاِسْمٰعِيْلَ وَاِسْحٰقَ وَيَعْقُوْبَ وَالْاَسْبَاطِ وَعِيْسٰى وَاَيُّوْبَ وَيُوْنُسَ وَهٰرُوْنَ وَسُلَيْمٰنَ ۚوَاٰتَيْنَا دَاوٗدَ زَبُوْرًاۚ ( النساء: ١٦٣ )

innā

إِنَّآ

Indeed, We

awḥaynā

أَوْحَيْنَآ

have revealed

ilayka

إِلَيْكَ

to you

kamā

كَمَآ

awḥaynā

أَوْحَيْنَآ

We revealed

ilā

إِلَىٰ

nūḥin

نُوحٍ

Nuh

wal-nabiyīna

وَٱلنَّبِيِّۦنَ

and the Prophets

min

مِنۢ

from

baʿdihi

بَعْدِهِۦۚ

after him

wa-awḥaynā

وَأَوْحَيْنَآ

and We revealed

ilā

إِلَىٰٓ

ib'rāhīma

إِبْرَٰهِيمَ

Ibrahim

wa-is'māʿīla

وَإِسْمَٰعِيلَ

and Ismail

wa-is'ḥāqa

وَإِسْحَٰقَ

and Ishaq

wayaʿqūba

وَيَعْقُوبَ

and Yaqub

wal-asbāṭi

وَٱلْأَسْبَاطِ

and the tribes

waʿīsā

وَعِيسَىٰ

and Isa

wa-ayyūba

وَأَيُّوبَ

and Ayub

wayūnusa

وَيُونُسَ

and Yunus

wahārūna

وَهَٰرُونَ

and Harun

wasulaymāna

وَسُلَيْمَٰنَۚ

and Sulaiman

waātaynā

وَءَاتَيْنَا

and We gave

dāwūda

دَاوُۥدَ

Dawood

zabūran

زَبُورًا

the Zaboor

innaaa awhainaaa ilaika kamaaa awhainaaa ilaa Noohinw wan nabiyyeena mim ba'dih; wa awhainaaa ilaaa ibraaheema wa Ismaaa'eela wa Ishaaqa wa Ya'qooba wal Asbaati wa 'Eesaa wa Ayyooba wa Yoonusa wa haaroona wa Sulaimaan; wa aatainaa Daawooda Zabooraa (an-Nisāʾ 4:163)

Sahih International:

Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Descendants, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and to David We gave the book [of Psalms]. (An-Nisa [4] : 163)

We have revealed to you as We revealed to Noah, and the prophets after him, and, as, We revealed to Abraham and, his two sons, Ishmael and Isaac, and Jacob, the son of Isaac, and the Tribes, his [Jacob's] children, and Jesus and Job and Jonah and Aaron, and Solomon, and We gave to, his father, David the Inscribed Book (read zabran, it would denote the name of the revealed Book [cf. the Psalms]; read zubran would make it a verbal noun, meaning mazbran, that is to say, maktban, `inscribed').

27 Tafseer Ibn Kathir

Revelation Came to Prophet Muhammad , Just as it Came to the Prophets Before Him

Muhammad bin Ishaq narrated that Muhammad bin Abi Muhammad said that Ikrimah, or Sa`id bin Jubayr, related to Ibn Abbas that he said,

"Sukayn and Adi bin Zayd said, `O Muhammad! We do not know that Allah sent down anything to any human after Musa.'

Allah sent down a rebuttal of their statement,
إِنَّا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ كَمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى نُوحٍ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ مِن بَعْدِهِ
(Verily, We have inspired you (O Muhammad) as We inspired Nuh and the Prophets after him)."

Allah states that He sent down revelation to His servant and Messenger Muhammad just as He sent down revelation to previous Prophets.

Allah said,

إِنَّا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَيْكَ كَمَا أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى نُوحٍ وَالنَّبِيِّينَ مِن بَعْدِهِ وَأَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَإِسْمَاعِيلَ وَإْسْحَقَ وَيَعْقُوبَ وَالَاسْبَاطِ وَعِيسَى وَأَيُّوبَ وَيُونُسَ وَهَارُونَ وَسُلَيْمَانَ

Verily, We have sent the revelation to you as We sent the revelation to Nuh and the Prophets after him; We (also) sent the revelation to Ibrahim, Ismail, Ishaq, Yaqub, and Al-Asbat, (the offspring of the twelve sons of Yaqub) `Isa, Ayub, Yunus, Harun, and Suleiman;

وَاتَيْنَا دَاوُودَ زَبُورًا

and to Dawud We gave the Zabur.

The Zabur (Psalms) is the name of the Book revealed to Prophet Dawud, peace be upon him.
