Surah [3] Ali Imran : 134

الَّذِيۡنَ يُنۡفِقُوۡنَ فِى السَّرَّآءِ وَالضَّرَّآءِ وَالۡكٰظِمِيۡنَ الۡغَيۡظَ وَالۡعَافِيۡنَ عَنِ النَّاسِ‌ؕ وَاللّٰهُ يُحِبُّ الۡمُحۡسِنِيۡنَ‌ۚ(آل عمران :134)

ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
يُنفِقُونَ
spend
فِى
in
ٱلسَّرَّآءِ
[the] ease
وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ
and (in) the hardship
وَٱلْكَٰظِمِينَ
and those who restrain
ٱلْغَيْظَ
the anger
وَٱلْعَافِينَ
and those who pardon
عَنِ
[from]
ٱلنَّاسِۗ
the people -
وَٱللَّهُ
and Allah
يُحِبُّ
loves
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
the good-doers

Allatheena yunfiqoona fee alssarrai waalddarrai waalkathimeena alghaytha waal'afeena 'ani alnnasi waAllahu yuhibbu almuhsineena

Sahih International:

Who spend [in the cause of Allah ] during ease and hardship and who restrain anger and who pardon the people - and Allah loves the doers of good;

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [6] Al-An'am : 42

وَلَقَدۡ اَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ اِلٰٓى اُمَمٍ مِّنۡ قَبۡلِكَ فَاَخَذۡنٰهُمۡ بِالۡبَاۡسَآءِ وَالضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَضَرَّعُوۡنَ‏(الأنعام :42)

وَلَقَدْ
And certainly
أَرْسَلْنَآ
We sent (Messengers)
إِلَىٰٓ
to
أُمَمٍ
nations
مِّن
from
قَبْلِكَ
before you
فَأَخَذْنَٰهُم
then We seized them
بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ
with adversity
وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ
and hardship
لَعَلَّهُمْ
so that they may
يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
humble themselves

Walaqad arsalna ila omamin min qablika faakhathnahum bialbasai waalddarrai la'allahum yatadarra'oona

Sahih International:

And We have already sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muhammad]; then We seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps they might humble themselves [to Us].

Surah [7] Al-A'raf : 94

وَمَاۤ اَرۡسَلۡنَا فِىۡ قَرۡيَةٍ مِّنۡ نَّبِىٍّ اِلَّاۤ اَخَذۡنَاۤ اَهۡلَهَا بِالۡبَاۡسَآءِ وَالضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَضَّرَّعُوۡنَ(الأعراف :94)

وَمَآ
And not
أَرْسَلْنَا
We sent
فِى
in
قَرْيَةٍ
a city
مِّن
[of]
نَّبِىٍّ
any Prophet
إِلَّآ
except
أَخَذْنَآ
We seized
أَهْلَهَا
its people
بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ
with adversity
وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ
and hardship
لَعَلَّهُمْ
so that they may
يَضَّرَّعُونَ
(become) humble

Wama arsalna fee qaryatin min nabiyyin illa akhathna ahlaha bialbasai waalddarrai la'allahum yaddarra'oona

Sahih International:

And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah ].

Surah [7] Al-A'raf : 95

ثُمَّ بَدَّلۡـنَا مَكَانَ السَّيِّئَةِ الۡحَسَنَةَ حَتّٰى عَفَوْا وَّقَالُوۡا قَدۡ مَسَّ اٰبَآءَنَا الضَّرَّآءُ وَالسَّرَّآءُ فَاَخَذۡنٰهُمۡ بَغۡتَةً وَّهُمۡ لَا يَشۡعُرُوۡنَ(الأعراف :95)

ثُمَّ
Then
بَدَّلْنَا
We changed
مَكَانَ
(in) place
ٱلسَّيِّئَةِ
(of) the bad
ٱلْحَسَنَةَ
the good
حَتَّىٰ
until
عَفَوا۟
they increased
وَّقَالُوا۟
and said
قَدْ
"Verily
مَسَّ
(had) touched
ءَابَآءَنَا
our forefathers
ٱلضَّرَّآءُ
the adversity
وَٱلسَّرَّآءُ
and the ease"
فَأَخَذْنَٰهُم
So We seized them
بَغْتَةً
suddenly
وَهُمْ
while they
لَا
(did) not
يَشْعُرُونَ
perceive

Thumma baddalna makana alssayyiati alhasanata hatta 'afaw waqaloo qad massa abaana alddarrao waalssarrao faakhathnahum baghtatan wahum la yash'uroona

Sahih International:

Then We exchanged in place of the bad [condition], good, until they increased [and prospered] and said, "Our fathers [also] were touched with hardship and ease." So We seized them suddenly while they did not perceive.

Surah [10] Yunus : 21

وَاِذَاۤ اَذَقۡنَا النَّاسَ رَحۡمَةً مِّنۡۢ بَعۡدِ ضَرَّآءَ مَسَّتۡهُمۡ اِذَا لَهُمۡ مَّكۡرٌ فِىۡۤ اٰيَاتِنَا‌ ؕ قُلِ اللّٰهُ اَسۡرَعُ مَكۡرًا‌ ؕ اِنَّ رُسُلَنَا يَكۡتُبُوۡنَ مَا تَمۡكُرُوۡنَ‏(يونس :21)

وَإِذَآ
And when
أَذَقْنَا
We let [the] mankind taste
ٱلنَّاسَ
We let [the] mankind taste
رَحْمَةً
mercy
مِّنۢ
after
بَعْدِ
after
ضَرَّآءَ
adversity
مَسَّتْهُمْ
has touched them
إِذَا
behold!
لَهُم
They have
مَّكْرٌ
a plot
فِىٓ
against
ءَايَاتِنَاۚ
Our Verses
قُلِ
Say
ٱللَّهُ
"Allah
أَسْرَعُ
(is) more swift
مَكْرًاۚ
(in) planning"
إِنَّ
Indeed
رُسُلَنَا
Our Messengers
يَكْتُبُونَ
write down
مَا
what
تَمْكُرُونَ
you plot

Waitha athaqna alnnasa rahmatan min ba'di darraa massathum itha lahum makrun fee ayatina quli Allahu asra'u makran inna rusulana yaktuboona ma tamkuroona

Sahih International:

And when We give the people a taste of mercy after adversity has touched them, at once they conspire against Our verses. Say, " Allah is swifter in strategy." Indeed, Our messengers record that which you conspire

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [11] Hud : 10

وَلَٮِٕنۡ اَذَقۡنٰهُ نَـعۡمَآءَ بَعۡدَ ضَرَّآءَ مَسَّتۡهُ لَيَـقُوۡلَنَّ ذَهَبَ السَّيِّاٰتُ عَنِّىۡ‌ ؕ اِنَّهٗ لَـفَرِحٌ فَخُوۡرٌۙ(هود :10)

وَلَئِنْ
But if
أَذَقْنَٰهُ
We give him a taste
نَعْمَآءَ
(of) favor
بَعْدَ
after
ضَرَّآءَ
hardship
مَسَّتْهُ
(has) touched him
لَيَقُولَنَّ
surely he will say
ذَهَبَ
"Have gone
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتُ
the evils
عَنِّىٓۚ
from me
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed he
لَفَرِحٌ
(is) exultant
فَخُورٌ
(and) boastful

Walain athaqnahu na'maa ba'da darraa massathu layaqoolanna thahaba alssayyiatu 'annee innahu lafarihun fakhoorun

Sahih International:

But if We give him a taste of favor after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, "Bad times have left me." Indeed, he is exultant and boastful -

Surah [12] Yusuf : 88

فَلَمَّا دَخَلُوۡا عَلَيۡهِ قَالُوۡا يٰۤاَيُّهَا الۡعَزِيۡزُ مَسَّنَا وَاَهۡلَنَا الضُّرُّ وَجِئۡنَا بِبِضَاعَةٍ مُّزۡجٰٮةٍ فَاَوۡفِ لَنَا الۡكَيۡلَ وَتَصَدَّقۡ عَلَيۡنَاؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ يَجۡزِى الۡمُتَصَدِّقِيۡنَ(يوسف :88)

فَلَمَّا
So when
دَخَلُوا۟
they entered
عَلَيْهِ
upon him
قَالُوا۟
they said
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
"O Aziz!
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
"O Aziz!
مَسَّنَا
Has touched us
وَأَهْلَنَا
and our family
ٱلضُّرُّ
the adversity
وَجِئْنَا
and we have come
بِبِضَٰعَةٍ
with goods
مُّزْجَىٰةٍ
(of) little value
فَأَوْفِ
but pay (in) full
لَنَا
to us
ٱلْكَيْلَ
the measure
وَتَصَدَّقْ
and be charitable
عَلَيْنَآۖ
to us
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
يَجْزِى
rewards
ٱلْمُتَصَدِّقِينَ
the charitable"

Falamma dakhaloo 'alayhi qaloo ya ayyuha al'azeezu massana waahlana alddurru wajina bibida'atin muzjatin faawfi lana alkayla watasaddaq 'alayna inna Allaha yajzee almutasaddiqeena

Sahih International:

So when they entered upon Joseph, they said, "O 'Azeez, adversity has touched us and our family, and we have come with goods poor in quality, but give us full measure and be charitable to us. Indeed, Allah rewards the charitable."

Surah [41] Fussilat : 50

وَلَٮِٕنۡ اَذَقۡنٰهُ رَحۡمَةً مِّنَّا مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ ضَرَّآءَ مَسَّتۡهُ لَيَقُوۡلَنَّ هٰذَا لِىۡ ۙ وَمَاۤ اَظُنُّ السَّاعَةَ قَآٮِٕمَةً  ۙ وَّلَٮِٕنۡ رُّجِعۡتُ اِلٰى رَبِّىۡۤ اِنَّ لِىۡ عِنۡدَهٗ لَـلۡحُسۡنٰى‌ ۚ فَلَـنُنَـبِّـئَنَّ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡا بِمَا عَمِلُوۡا وَلَـنُذِيۡقَنَّهُمۡ مِّنۡ عَذَابٍ غَلِيۡظٍ(فصلت :50)

وَلَئِنْ
And verily, if
أَذَقْنَٰهُ
We let him taste
رَحْمَةً
mercy
مِّنَّا
from Us
مِنۢ
after
بَعْدِ
after
ضَرَّآءَ
an adversity
مَسَّتْهُ
(has) touched him
لَيَقُولَنَّ
he will surely say
هَٰذَا
"This (is)
لِى
(due) to me
وَمَآ
and not
أَظُنُّ
I think
ٱلسَّاعَةَ
the Hour
قَآئِمَةً
(will be) established
وَلَئِن
and if
رُّجِعْتُ
I am returned
إِلَىٰ
to
رَبِّىٓ
my Lord
إِنَّ
indeed
لِى
for me
عِندَهُۥ
with Him
لَلْحُسْنَىٰۚ
(will be) the best"
فَلَنُنَبِّئَنَّ
But We will surely inform
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieved
بِمَا
about what
عَمِلُوا۟
they did
وَلَنُذِيقَنَّهُم
and We will surely make them taste
مِّنْ
of
عَذَابٍ
a punishment
غَلِيظٍ
severe

Walain athaqnahu rahmatan minna min ba'di darraa massathu layaqoolanna hatha lee wama athunnu alssa'ata qaimatan walain ruji'tu ila rabbee inna lee 'indahu lalhusna falanunabbianna allatheena kafaroo bima 'amiloo walanutheeqannahum min 'athabin ghaleethin

Sahih International:

And if We let him taste mercy from Us after an adversity which has touched him, he will surely say, "This is [due] to me, and I do not think the Hour will occur; and [even] if I should be returned to my Lord, indeed, for me there will be with Him the best." But We will surely inform those who disbelieved about what they did, and We will surely make them taste a massive punishment.
