Surah [6] Al-An'am : 25

وَمِنۡهُمۡ مَّنۡ يَّسۡتَمِعُ اِلَيۡكَ‌‌ ۚ وَجَعَلۡنَا عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ اَكِنَّةً اَنۡ يَّفۡقَهُوۡهُ وَفِىۡۤ اٰذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرًا ‌ؕ وَاِنۡ يَّرَوۡا كُلَّ اٰيَةٍ لَّا يُؤۡمِنُوۡا بِهَا‌ ؕ حَتّٰۤى اِذَا جَآءُوۡكَ يُجَادِلُوۡنَكَ يَقُوۡلُ الَّذِيۡنَ كَفَرُوۡۤا اِنۡ هٰذَاۤ اِلَّاۤ اَسَاطِيۡرُ الۡاَوَّلِيۡنَ(الأنعام :25)

وَمِنْهُم
And among them
مَّن
(are those) who
يَسْتَمِعُ
listen
إِلَيْكَۖ
to you
وَجَعَلْنَا
but We have placed
عَلَىٰ
over
قُلُوبِهِمْ
their hearts
أَكِنَّةً
coverings
أَن
lest
يَفْقَهُوهُ
they understand it
وَفِىٓ
and in
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
their ears
وَقْرًاۚ
deafness
وَإِن
And if
يَرَوْا۟
they see
كُلَّ
every
ءَايَةٍ
sign
لَّا
not
يُؤْمِنُوا۟
will they believe
بِهَاۚ
in it
حَتَّىٰٓ
Until
إِذَا
when
جَآءُوكَ
they come to you
يُجَٰدِلُونَكَ
and argue with you
يَقُولُ
say
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
كَفَرُوٓا۟
disbelieved
إِنْ
"Not
هَٰذَآ
"(is) this
إِلَّآ
but
أَسَٰطِيرُ
(the) tales
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
(of) the former (people)"

Waminhum man yastami'u ilayka waja'alna 'ala quloobihim akinnatan an yafqahoohu wafee athanihim waqran wain yaraw kulla ayatin la yuminoo biha hatta itha jaooka yujadiloonaka yaqoolu allatheena kafaroo in hatha illa asateeru alawwaleena

Sahih International:

And among them are those who listen to you, but We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it. Even when they come to you arguing with you, those who disbelieve say, "This is not but legends of the former peoples."

Surah [6] Al-An'am : 76

فَلَمَّا جَنَّ عَلَيۡهِ الَّيۡلُ رَاٰ كَوۡكَبًا ‌ۚ قَالَ هٰذَا رَبِّىۡ‌ ۚ فَلَمَّاۤ اَفَلَ قَالَ لَاۤ اُحِبُّ الۡاٰفِلِيۡنَ (الأنعام :76)

فَلَمَّا
So when
جَنَّ
covered
عَلَيْهِ
over him
ٱلَّيْلُ
the night
رَءَا
he saw
كَوْكَبًاۖ
a star
قَالَ
He said
هَٰذَا
"This
رَبِّىۖ
(is) my Lord"
فَلَمَّآ
But when
أَفَلَ
it set
قَالَ
he said
لَآ
"Not
أُحِبُّ
"(do) I like
ٱلْءَافِلِينَ
the ones that set"

Falamma janna 'alayhi allaylu raa kawkaban qala hatha rabbee falamma afala qala la ohibbu alafileena

Sahih International:

So when the night covered him [with darkness], he saw a star. He said, "This is my lord." But when it set, he said, "I like not those that disappear."

Surah [7] Al-A'raf : 189

هُوَ الَّذِىۡ خَلَقَكُمۡ مِّنۡ نَّـفۡسٍ وَّاحِدَةٍ وَّجَعَلَ مِنۡهَا زَوۡجَهَا لِيَسۡكُنَ اِلَيۡهَا‌ ۚ فَلَمَّا تَغَشّٰٮهَا حَمَلَتۡ حَمۡلًا خَفِيۡفًا فَمَرَّتۡ بِهٖ‌ ۚ فَلَمَّاۤ اَثۡقَلَتۡ دَّعَوَا اللّٰهَ رَبَّهُمَا لَٮِٕنۡ اٰتَيۡتَـنَا صَالِحًا لَّـنَكُوۡنَنَّ مِنَ الشّٰكِرِيۡنَ(الأعراف :189)

هُوَ
He
ٱلَّذِى
(is) the One Who
خَلَقَكُم
created you
مِّن
from
نَّفْسٍ
a soul
وَٰحِدَةٍ
single
وَجَعَلَ
and made
مِنْهَا
from it
زَوْجَهَا
its mate
لِيَسْكُنَ
that he might live
إِلَيْهَاۖ
with her
فَلَمَّا
And when
تَغَشَّىٰهَا
he covers her
حَمَلَتْ
she carries
حَمْلًا
a burden
خَفِيفًا
light
فَمَرَّتْ
and continues
بِهِۦۖ
with it
فَلَمَّآ
But when
أَثْقَلَت
she grows heavy
دَّعَوَا
they both invoke
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
رَبَّهُمَا
their Lord
لَئِنْ
"If
ءَاتَيْتَنَا
You give us
صَٰلِحًا
a righteous (child)
لَّنَكُونَنَّ
surely we will be
مِنَ
among
ٱلشَّٰكِرِينَ
the thankful"

Huwa allathee khalaqakum min nafsin wahidatin waja'ala minha zawjaha liyaskuna ilayha falamma taghashshaha hamalat hamlan khafeefan famarrat bihi falamma athqalat da'awa Allaha rabbahuma lain ataytana salihan lanakoonanna mina alshshakireena

Sahih International:

It is He who created you from one soul and created from it its mate that he might dwell in security with her. And when he covers her, she carries a light burden and continues therein. And when it becomes heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You should give us a good [child], we will surely be among the grateful."

Surah [7] Al-A'raf : 27

يٰبَنِىۡۤ اٰدَمَ لَا يَفۡتِنَـنَّكُمُ الشَّيۡطٰنُ كَمَاۤ اَخۡرَجَ اَبَوَيۡكُمۡ مِّنَ الۡجَـنَّةِ يَنۡزِعُ عَنۡهُمَا لِبَاسَهُمَا لِيُرِيَهُمَا سَوۡءاٰتِهِمَا ؕ اِنَّهٗ يَرٰٮكُمۡ هُوَ وَقَبِيۡلُهٗ مِنۡ حَيۡثُ لَا تَرَوۡنَهُمۡ‌ ؕ اِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا الشَّيٰطِيۡنَ اَوۡلِيَآءَ لِلَّذِيۡنَ لَا يُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ(الأعراف :27)

يَٰبَنِىٓ
O Children
ءَادَمَ
(of) Adam!
لَا
(Let) not
يَفْتِنَنَّكُمُ
tempt you
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ
[the] Shaitaan
كَمَآ
as
أَخْرَجَ
he drove out
أَبَوَيْكُم
your parents
مِّنَ
from
ٱلْجَنَّةِ
Paradise
يَنزِعُ
stripping
عَنْهُمَا
from both of them
لِبَاسَهُمَا
their clothing
لِيُرِيَهُمَا
to show both of them
سَوْءَٰتِهِمَآۗ
their shame
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed he
يَرَىٰكُمْ
sees you -
هُوَ
he
وَقَبِيلُهُۥ
and his tribe
مِنْ
from
حَيْثُ
where
لَا
not
تَرَوْنَهُمْۗ
you see them
إِنَّا
Indeed
جَعَلْنَا
We have made
ٱلشَّيَٰطِينَ
the devils
أَوْلِيَآءَ
friends
لِلَّذِينَ
of those who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
believe

Ya banee adama la yaftinannakumu alshshaytanu kama akhraja abawaykum mina aljannati yanzi'u 'anhuma libasahuma liyuriyahuma sawatihima innahu yarakum huwa waqabeeluhu min haythu la tarawnahum inna ja'alna alshshayateena awliyaa lillatheena la yuminoona

Sahih International:

O children of Adam, let not Satan tempt you as he removed your parents from Paradise, stripping them of their clothing to show them their private parts. Indeed, he sees you, he and his tribe, from where you do not see them. Indeed, We have made the devils allies to those who do not believe.

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [7] Al-A'raf : 41

لَهُمۡ مِّنۡ جَهَـنَّمَ مِهَادٌ وَّمِنۡ فَوۡقِهِمۡ غَوَاشٍ‌ ؕ وَكَذٰلِكَ نَجۡزِى الظّٰلِمِيۡنَ(الأعراف :41)

لَهُم
For them
مِّن
of
جَهَنَّمَ
(the) Hell
مِهَادٌ
(is) a bed
وَمِن
and from
فَوْقِهِمْ
over them
غَوَاشٍۚ
coverings
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
نَجْزِى
We recompense
ٱلظَّٰلِمِينَ
the wrongdoers

Lahum min jahannama mihadun wamin fawqihim ghawashin wakathalika najzee alththalimeena

Sahih International:

They will have from Hell a bed and over them coverings [of fire]. And thus do We recompense the wrongdoers.

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 57

وَمَنۡ اَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنۡ ذُكِّرَ بِاٰيٰتِ رَبِّهٖ فَاَعۡرَضَ عَنۡهَا وَنَسِىَ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ يَدٰهُ‌ ؕ اِنَّا جَعَلۡنَا عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ اَكِنَّةً اَنۡ يَّفۡقَهُوۡهُ وَفِىۡۤ اٰذَانِهِمۡ وَقۡرًا‌ ؕ وَاِنۡ تَدۡعُهُمۡ اِلَى الۡهُدٰى فَلَنۡ يَّهۡتَدُوۡۤا اِذًا اَبَدًا(الكهف :57)

وَمَنْ
And who
أَظْلَمُ
(is) more wrong
مِمَّن
than (he) who
ذُكِّرَ
is reminded
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
of the Verses
رَبِّهِۦ
(of) his Lord
فَأَعْرَضَ
but turns away
عَنْهَا
from them
وَنَسِىَ
and forgets
مَا
what
قَدَّمَتْ
have sent forth
يَدَاهُۚ
his hands?
إِنَّا
Indeed We
جَعَلْنَا
[We] have placed
عَلَىٰ
over
قُلُوبِهِمْ
their hearts
أَكِنَّةً
coverings
أَن
lest
يَفْقَهُوهُ
they understand it
وَفِىٓ
and in
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
their ears
وَقْرًاۖ
(is) deafness
وَإِن
And if
تَدْعُهُمْ
you call them
إِلَى
to
ٱلْهُدَىٰ
the guidance
فَلَن
then never
يَهْتَدُوٓا۟
they will be guided
إِذًا
then
أَبَدًا
ever

Waman athlamu mimman thukkira biayati rabbihi faa'rada 'anha wanasiya ma qaddamat yadahu inna ja'alna 'ala quloobihim akinnatan an yafqahoohu wafee athanihim waqran wain tad'uhum ila alhuda falan yahtadoo ithan abadan

Sahih International:

And who is more unjust than one who is reminded of the verses of his Lord but turns away from them and forgets what his hands have put forth? Indeed, We have placed over their hearts coverings, lest they understand it, and in their ears deafness. And if you invite them to guidance - they will never be guided, then - ever.

Surah [24] An-Nur : 31

وَقُلْ لِّـلۡمُؤۡمِنٰتِ يَغۡضُضۡنَ مِنۡ اَبۡصَارِهِنَّ وَيَحۡفَظۡنَ فُرُوۡجَهُنَّ وَلَا يُبۡدِيۡنَ زِيۡنَتَهُنَّ اِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنۡهَا‌ وَلۡيَـضۡرِبۡنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلٰى جُيُوۡبِهِنَّ‌ۖ وَلَا يُبۡدِيۡنَ زِيۡنَتَهُنَّ اِلَّا لِبُعُوۡلَتِهِنَّ اَوۡ اٰبَآٮِٕهِنَّ اَوۡ اٰبَآءِ بُعُوۡلَتِهِنَّ اَوۡ اَبۡنَآٮِٕهِنَّ اَوۡ اَبۡنَآءِ بُعُوۡلَتِهِنَّ اَوۡ اِخۡوَانِهِنَّ اَوۡ بَنِىۡۤ اِخۡوَانِهِنَّ اَوۡ بَنِىۡۤ اَخَوٰتِهِنَّ اَوۡ نِسَآٮِٕهِنَّ اَوۡ مَا مَلَـكَتۡ اَيۡمَانُهُنَّ اَوِ التّٰبِعِيۡنَ غَيۡرِ اُولِى الۡاِرۡبَةِ مِنَ الرِّجَالِ اَوِ الطِّفۡلِ الَّذِيۡنَ لَمۡ يَظۡهَرُوۡا عَلٰى عَوۡرٰتِ النِّسَآءِ‌ۖ وَلَا يَضۡرِبۡنَ بِاَرۡجُلِهِنَّ لِيُـعۡلَمَ مَا يُخۡفِيۡنَ مِنۡ زِيۡنَتِهِنَّ‌ ؕ وَتُوۡبُوۡۤا اِلَى اللّٰهِ جَمِيۡعًا اَيُّهَ الۡمُؤۡمِنُوۡنَ لَعَلَّكُمۡ تُفۡلِحُوۡنَ(النور :31)

وَقُل
And say
لِّلْمُؤْمِنَٰتِ
to the believing women
يَغْضُضْنَ
(that) they should lower
مِنْ
[of]
أَبْصَٰرِهِنَّ
their gaze
وَيَحْفَظْنَ
and they should guard
فُرُوجَهُنَّ
their chastity
وَلَا
and not
يُبْدِينَ
(to) display
زِينَتَهُنَّ
their adornment
إِلَّا
except
مَا
what
ظَهَرَ
is apparent
مِنْهَاۖ
of it
وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ
And let them draw
بِخُمُرِهِنَّ
their head covers
عَلَىٰ
over
جُيُوبِهِنَّۖ
their bosoms
وَلَا
and not
يُبْدِينَ
(to) display
زِينَتَهُنَّ
their adornment
إِلَّا
except
لِبُعُولَتِهِنَّ
to their husbands
أَوْ
or
ءَابَآئِهِنَّ
their fathers
أَوْ
or
ءَابَآءِ
fathers
بُعُولَتِهِنَّ
(of) their husbands
أَوْ
or
أَبْنَآئِهِنَّ
their sons
أَوْ
or
أَبْنَآءِ
sons
بُعُولَتِهِنَّ
(of) their husbands
أَوْ
or
إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ
their brothers
أَوْ
or
بَنِىٓ
sons
إِخْوَٰنِهِنَّ
(of) their brothers
أَوْ
or
بَنِىٓ
sons
أَخَوَٰتِهِنَّ
(of) their sisters
أَوْ
or
نِسَآئِهِنَّ
their women
أَوْ
or
مَا
what
مَلَكَتْ
possess
أَيْمَٰنُهُنَّ
their right hands
أَوِ
or
ٱلتَّٰبِعِينَ
the attendants
غَيْرِ
having no physical desire
أُو۟لِى
having no physical desire
ٱلْإِرْبَةِ
having no physical desire
مِنَ
among
ٱلرِّجَالِ
[the] men
أَوِ
or
ٱلطِّفْلِ
[the] children
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
لَمْ
(are) not
يَظْهَرُوا۟
aware
عَلَىٰ
of
عَوْرَٰتِ
private aspects
ٱلنِّسَآءِۖ
(of) the women
وَلَا
And not
يَضْرِبْنَ
let them stamp
بِأَرْجُلِهِنَّ
their feet
لِيُعْلَمَ
to make known
مَا
what
يُخْفِينَ
they conceal
مِن
of
زِينَتِهِنَّۚ
their adornment
وَتُوبُوٓا۟
And turn
إِلَى
to
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
جَمِيعًا
altogether
أَيُّهَ
O believers!
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
O believers!
لَعَلَّكُمْ
So that you may
تُفْلِحُونَ
succeed

Waqul lilmuminati yaghdudna min absarihinna wayahfathna furoojahunna wala yubdeena zeenatahunna illa ma thahara minha walyadribna bikhumurihinna 'ala juyoobihinna wala yubdeena zeenatahunna illa libu'oolatihinna aw abaihinna aw abai bu'oolatihinna aw abnaihinna aw abnai bu'oolatihinna aw ikhwanihinna aw banee ikhwanihinna aw banee akhawatihinna aw nisaihinna aw ma malakat aymanuhunna awi alttabi'eena ghayri olee alirbati mina alrrijali awi alttifli allatheena lam yathharoo 'ala 'awrati alnnisai wala yadribna biarjulihinna liyu'lama ma yukhfeena min zeenatihinna watooboo ila Allahi jamee'an ayyuha almuminoona la'allakum tuflihoona

Sahih International:

And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess, or those male attendants having no physical desire, or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allah in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [41] Fussilat : 5

وَقَالُوۡا قُلُوۡبُنَا فِىۡۤ اَكِنَّةٍ مِّمَّا تَدۡعُوۡنَاۤ اِلَيۡهِ وَفِىۡۤ اٰذَانِنَا وَقۡرٌ وَّمِنۡۢ بَيۡنِنَا وَبَيۡنِكَ حِجَابٌ فَاعۡمَلۡ اِنَّنَا عٰمِلُوۡنَ‏(فصلت :5)

وَقَالُوا۟
And they say
قُلُوبُنَا
"Our hearts
فِىٓ
(are) in
أَكِنَّةٍ
coverings
مِّمَّا
from what
تَدْعُونَآ
you call us
إِلَيْهِ
to it
وَفِىٓ
and in
ءَاذَانِنَا
our ears
وَقْرٌ
(is) deafness
وَمِنۢ
and between us
بَيْنِنَا
and between us
وَبَيْنِكَ
and between you
حِجَابٌ
(is) a screen
فَٱعْمَلْ
So work
إِنَّنَا
indeed, we
عَٰمِلُونَ
(are) working"

Waqaloo quloobuna fee akinnatin mimma tad'oona ilayhi wafee athanina waqrun wamin baynina wabaynika hijabun fai'mal innana 'amiloona

Sahih International:

And they say, "Our hearts are within coverings from that to which you invite us, and in our ears is deafness, and between us and you is a partition, so work; indeed, we are working."

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [50] Qaf : 22

لَقَدۡ كُنۡتَ فِىۡ غَفۡلَةٍ مِّنۡ هٰذَا فَكَشَفۡنَا عَنۡكَ غِطَآءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ الۡيَوۡمَ حَدِيۡدٌ(ق :22)

لَّقَدْ
"Certainly
كُنتَ
you were
فِى
in
غَفْلَةٍ
heedlessness
مِّنْ
of
هَٰذَا
this
فَكَشَفْنَا
So We have removed
عَنكَ
from you
غِطَآءَكَ
your cover
فَبَصَرُكَ
so your sight
ٱلْيَوْمَ
today
حَدِيدٌ
(is) sharp"

Laqad kunta fee ghaflatin min hatha fakashafna 'anka ghitaaka fabasaruka alyawma hadeedun

Sahih International:

[It will be said], "You were certainly in unmindfulness of this, and We have removed from you your cover, so your sight, this Day, is sharp."

Surah [91] Ash-Shams : 10

وَقَدۡ خَابَ مَنۡ دَسّٰٮهَا(الشمس :10)

وَقَدْ
And indeed
خَابَ
he fails
مَن
who
دَسَّىٰهَا
corrupts it

Waqad khaba man dassaha

Sahih International:

And he has failed who instills it [with corruption].
