Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 28

وَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مُّؤۡمِنٌ ‌ۖ مِّنۡ اٰلِ فِرۡعَوۡنَ يَكۡتُمُ اِيۡمَانَهٗۤ اَتَقۡتُلُوۡنَ رَجُلًا اَنۡ يَّقُوۡلَ رَبِّىَ اللّٰهُ وَقَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ بِالۡبَيِّنٰتِ مِنۡ رَّبِّكُمۡ ؕ وَاِنۡ يَّكُ كَاذِبًا فَعَلَيۡهِ كَذِبُهٗ ؕ وَاِنۡ يَّكُ صَادِقًا يُّصِبۡكُمۡ بَعۡضُ الَّذِىۡ يَعِدُكُمۡ ۚ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَا يَهۡدِىۡ مَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡرِفٌ كَذَّابٌ(غافر :28)

وَقَالَ
And said
رَجُلٌ
a man
مُّؤْمِنٌ
believing
مِّنْ
from
ءَالِ
(the) family
فِرْعَوْنَ
(of) Firaun
يَكْتُمُ
who conceal(ed)
إِيمَٰنَهُۥٓ
his faith
أَتَقْتُلُونَ
"Will you kill
رَجُلًا
a man
أَن
because
يَقُولَ
he says
رَبِّىَ
"My Lord
ٱللَّهُ
(is) Allah"
وَقَدْ
and indeed
جَآءَكُم
he has brought you
بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
clear proofs
مِن
from
رَّبِّكُمْۖ
your Lord?
وَإِن
And if
يَكُ
he is
كَٰذِبًا
a liar
فَعَلَيْهِ
then upon him
كَذِبُهُۥۖ
(is) his lie;
وَإِن
and if
يَكُ
he is
صَادِقًا
truthful
يُصِبْكُم
(there) will strike you
بَعْضُ
some (of)
ٱلَّذِى
(that) which
يَعِدُكُمْۖ
he threatens you
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
لَا
(does) not
يَهْدِى
guide
مَنْ
(one) who
هُوَ
[he]
مُسْرِفٌ
(is) a transgressor
كَذَّابٌ
a liar

Waqala rajulun muminun min ali fir'awna yaktumu eemanahu ataqtuloona rajulan an yaqoola rabbiyya Allahu waqad jaakum bialbayyinati min rabbikum wain yaku kathiban fa'alayhi kathibuhu wain yaku sadiqan yusibkum ba'du allathee ya'idukum inna Allaha la yahdee man huwa musrifun kaththabun

Sahih International:

And a believing man from the family of Pharaoh who concealed his faith said, "Do you kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is Allah ' while he has brought you clear proofs from your Lord? And if he should be lying, then upon him is [the consequence of] his lie; but if he should be truthful, there will strike you some of what he promises you. Indeed, Allah does not guide one who is a transgressor and a liar.

Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 29

يٰقَوۡمِ لَـكُمُ الۡمُلۡكُ الۡيَوۡمَ ظٰهِرِيۡنَ فِى الۡاَرۡضِ فَمَنۡ يَّنۡصُرُنَا مِنۡۢ بَاۡسِ اللّٰهِ اِنۡ جَآءَنَا ؕ قَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ مَاۤ اُرِيۡكُمۡ اِلَّا مَاۤ اَرٰى وَمَاۤ اَهۡدِيۡكُمۡ اِلَّا سَبِيۡلَ الرَّشَادِ‏(غافر :29)

يَٰقَوْمِ
O my people!
لَكُمُ
For you
ٱلْمُلْكُ
(is) the kingdom
ٱلْيَوْمَ
today
ظَٰهِرِينَ
dominant
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the land
فَمَن
but who
يَنصُرُنَا
will help us
مِنۢ
from
بَأْسِ
(the) punishment
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
إِن
if
جَآءَنَاۚ
it came to us"
قَالَ
Said
فِرْعَوْنُ
Firaun
مَآ
"Not
أُرِيكُمْ
I show you
إِلَّا
except
مَآ
what
أَرَىٰ
I see
وَمَآ
and not
أَهْدِيكُمْ
I guide you
إِلَّا
except
سَبِيلَ
(to the) path
ٱلرَّشَادِ
the right"

Ya qawmi lakumu almulku alyawma thahireena fee alardi faman yansuruna min basi Allahi in jaana qala fir'awnu ma oreekum illa ma ara wama ahdeekum illa sabeela alrrashadi

Sahih International:

O my people, sovereignty is yours today, [your being] dominant in the land. But who would protect us from the punishment of Allah if it came to us?" Pharaoh said, "I do not show you except what I see, and I do not guide you except to the way of right conduct."

Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 30

وَقَالَ الَّذِىۡۤ اٰمَنَ يٰقَوۡمِ اِنِّىۡۤ اَخَافُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ مِّثۡلَ يَوۡمِ الۡاَحۡزَابِۙ(غافر :30)

وَقَالَ
And said
ٱلَّذِىٓ
(he) who
ءَامَنَ
believed
يَٰقَوْمِ
"O my people!
إِنِّىٓ
Indeed I
أَخَافُ
[I] fear
عَلَيْكُم
for you
مِّثْلَ
like
يَوْمِ
(the) day
ٱلْأَحْزَابِ
(of) the companies

Waqala allathee amana ya qawmi innee akhafu 'alaykum mithla yawmi alahzabi

Sahih International:

And he who believed said, "O my people, indeed I fear for you [a fate] like the day of the companies -

Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 31

مِثۡلَ دَاۡبِ قَوۡمِ نُوۡحٍ وَّعَادٍ وَّثَمُوۡدَ وَالَّذِيۡنَ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِهِمۡؕ وَمَا اللّٰهُ يُرِيۡدُ ظُلۡمًا لِّلۡعِبَادِ‏(غافر :31)

مِثْلَ
Like
دَأْبِ
(the) plight
قَوْمِ
(of the) people
نُوحٍ
(of) Nuh
وَعَادٍ
and Aad
وَثَمُودَ
and Thamud
وَٱلَّذِينَ
and those
مِنۢ
after them
بَعْدِهِمْۚ
after them
وَمَا
And Allah (does) not
ٱللَّهُ
And Allah (does) not
يُرِيدُ
want
ظُلْمًا
injustice
لِّلْعِبَادِ
for (His) slaves

Mithla dabi qawmi noohin wa'adin wathamooda waallatheena min ba'dihim wama Allahu yureedu thulman lil'ibadi

Sahih International:

Like the custom of the people of Noah and of 'Aad and Thamud and those after them. And Allah wants no injustice for [His] servants.

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 32

وَيٰقَوۡمِ اِنِّىۡۤ اَخَافُ عَلَيۡكُمۡ يَوۡمَ التَّنَادِۙ(غافر :32)

وَيَٰقَوْمِ
And O my people!
إِنِّىٓ
Indeed I
أَخَافُ
[I] fear
عَلَيْكُمْ
for you
يَوْمَ
(the) Day
ٱلتَّنَادِ
(of) Calling

Waya qawmi innee akhafu 'alaykum yawma alttanadi

Sahih International:

And O my people, indeed I fear for you the Day of Calling -

Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 33

يَوۡمَ تُوَلُّوۡنَ مُدۡبِرِيۡنَ‌ۚ مَا لَكُمۡ مِّنَ اللّٰهِ مِنۡ عَاصِمٍۚ وَمَنۡ يُّضۡلِلِ اللّٰهُ فَمَا لَهٗ مِنۡ هَادٍ(غافر :33)

يَوْمَ
A Day
تُوَلُّونَ
you will turn back
مُدْبِرِينَ
fleeing
مَا
not
لَكُم
for you
مِّنَ
from
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
مِنْ
any
عَاصِمٍۗ
protector
وَمَن
And whoever
يُضْلِلِ
Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ
Allah lets go astray
فَمَا
then not
لَهُۥ
for him
مِنْ
any
هَادٍ
guide

Yawma tuwalloona mudbireena ma lakum mina Allahi min 'asimin waman yudlili Allahu fama lahu min hadin

Sahih International:

The Day you will turn your backs fleeing; there is not for you from Allah any protector. And whoever Allah leaves astray - there is not for him any guide.

Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 34

وَلَقَدۡ جَآءَكُمۡ يُوۡسُفُ مِنۡ قَبۡلُ بِالۡبَيِّنٰتِ فَمَا زِلۡـتُمۡ فِىۡ شَكٍّ مِّمَّا جَآءَكُمۡ بِهٖ ؕ حَتّٰٓى اِذَا هَلَكَ قُلۡتُمۡ لَنۡ يَّبۡعَثَ اللّٰهُ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِهٖ رَسُوۡلًا ؕ كَذٰلِكَ يُضِلُّ اللّٰهُ مَنۡ هُوَ مُسۡرِفٌ مُّرۡتَابٌ(غافر :34)

وَلَقَدْ
And indeed
جَآءَكُمْ
came to you
يُوسُفُ
Yusuf
مِن
before
قَبْلُ
before
بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِ
with clear proofs
فَمَا
but not
زِلْتُمْ
you ceased
فِى
in
شَكٍّ
doubt
مِّمَّا
about what
جَآءَكُم
he brought to you
بِهِۦۖ
[with it]
حَتَّىٰٓ
until
إِذَا
when
هَلَكَ
he died
قُلْتُمْ
you said
لَن
"Never
يَبْعَثَ
will Allah raise
ٱللَّهُ
will Allah raise
مِنۢ
after him
بَعْدِهِۦ
after him
رَسُولًاۚ
a Messenger"
كَذَٰلِكَ
Thus
يُضِلُّ
Allah lets go astray
ٱللَّهُ
Allah lets go astray
مَنْ
who
هُوَ
[he]
مُسْرِفٌ
(is) a transgressor
مُّرْتَابٌ
a doubter"

Walaqad jaakum yoosufu min qablu bialbayyinati fama ziltum fee shakkin mimma jaakum bihi hatta itha halaka qultum lan yab'atha Allahu min ba'dihi rasoolan kathalika yudillu Allahu man huwa musrifun murtabun

Sahih International:

And Joseph had already come to you before with clear proofs, but you remained in doubt of that which he brought to you, until when he died, you said, 'Never will Allah send a messenger after him.' Thus does Allah leave astray he who is a transgressor and skeptic."

Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 35

اۨلَّذِيۡنَ يُجَادِلُوۡنَ فِىۡۤ اٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ بِغَيۡرِ سُلۡطٰنٍ اَتٰٮهُمۡ ؕ كَبُـرَ مَقۡتًا عِنۡدَ اللّٰهِ وَعِنۡدَ الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا ؕ كَذٰلِكَ يَطۡبَعُ اللّٰهُ عَلٰى كُلِّ قَلۡبِ مُتَكَبِّرٍ جَبَّارٍ(غافر :35)

ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
يُجَٰدِلُونَ
dispute
فِىٓ
concerning
ءَايَٰتِ
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
بِغَيْرِ
without
سُلْطَٰنٍ
any authority
أَتَىٰهُمْۖ
(having) come to them
كَبُرَ
(it) is greatly
مَقْتًا
(in) hateful
عِندَ
near Allah
ٱللَّهِ
near Allah
وَعِندَ
and near
ٱلَّذِينَ
those
ءَامَنُوا۟ۚ
who believe
كَذَٰلِكَ
Thus
يَطْبَعُ
Allah sets a seal
ٱللَّهُ
Allah sets a seal
عَلَىٰ
over
كُلِّ
every
قَلْبِ
heart
مُتَكَبِّرٍ
(of) an arrogant
جَبَّارٍ
tyrant"

Allatheena yujadiloona fee ayati Allahi bighayri sultanin atahum kabura maqtan 'inda Allahi wa'inda allatheena amanoo kathalika yatba'u Allahu 'ala kulli qalbi mutakabbirin jabbarin

Sahih International:

Those who dispute concerning the signs of Allah without an authority having come to them - great is hatred [of them] in the sight of Allah and in the sight of those who have believed. Thus does Allah seal over every heart [belonging to] an arrogant tyrant.

Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 36

وَقَالَ فِرۡعَوۡنُ يٰهَامٰنُ ابۡنِ لِىۡ صَرۡحًا لَّعَلِّىۡۤ اَبۡلُغُ الۡاَسۡبَابَۙ(غافر :36)

وَقَالَ
And said
فِرْعَوْنُ
Firaun
يَٰهَٰمَٰنُ
"O Haman!
ٱبْنِ
Construct
لِى
for me
صَرْحًا
a tower
لَّعَلِّىٓ
that I may
أَبْلُغُ
reach
ٱلْأَسْبَٰبَ
the ways

Waqala fir'awnu ya hamanu ibni lee sarhan la'allee ablughu alasbaba

Sahih International:

And Pharaoh said, "O Haman, construct for me a tower that I might reach the ways -

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [40] Al-Mu'min : 37

اَسۡبَابَ السَّمٰوٰتِ فَاَطَّلِعَ اِلٰٓى اِلٰهِ مُوۡسٰى وَاِنِّىۡ لَاَظُنُّهٗ كَاذِبًا ؕ وَكَذٰلِكَ زُيِّنَ لِفِرۡعَوۡنَ سُوۡٓءُ عَمَلِهٖ وَصُدَّ عَنِ السَّبِيۡلِ ؕ وَمَا كَيۡدُ فِرۡعَوۡنَ اِلَّا فِىۡ تَبَابٍ(غافر :37)

أَسْبَٰبَ
(The) ways
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
(to) the heavens
فَأَطَّلِعَ
so I may look
إِلَىٰٓ
at
إِلَٰهِ
(the) God
مُوسَىٰ
(of) Musa;
وَإِنِّى
and indeed I
لَأَظُنُّهُۥ
[I] surely think him
كَٰذِبًاۚ
(to be) a liar"
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
زُيِّنَ
was made fair-seeming
لِفِرْعَوْنَ
to Firaun
سُوٓءُ
(the) evil
عَمَلِهِۦ
(of) his deed
وَصُدَّ
and he was averted
عَنِ
from
ٱلسَّبِيلِۚ
the way
وَمَا
And not
كَيْدُ
(was the) plot
فِرْعَوْنَ
(of) Firaun
إِلَّا
except
فِى
in
تَبَابٍ
ruin

Asbaba alssamawati faattali'a ila ilahi moosa wainnee laathunnuhu kathiban wakathalika zuyyina lifir'awna sooo 'amalihi wasudda 'ani alssabeeli wama kaydu fir'awna illa fee tababin

Sahih International:

The ways into the heavens - so that I may look at the deity of Moses; but indeed, I think he is a liar." And thus was made attractive to Pharaoh the evil of his deed, and he was averted from the [right] way. And the plan of Pharaoh was not except in ruin.
