Surah [2] Al-Baqara : 156

الَّذِيۡنَ اِذَآ اَصَابَتۡهُمۡ مُّصِيۡبَةٌ  ۙ قَالُوۡٓا اِنَّا لِلّٰهِ وَاِنَّـآ اِلَيۡهِ رٰجِعُوۡنَؕ (البقرة :156)

ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
إِذَآ
when
أَصَٰبَتْهُم
strikes them
مُّصِيبَةٌ
a misfortune
قَالُوٓا۟
they say
إِنَّا
"Indeed, we
لِلَّهِ
belong to Allah
وَإِنَّآ
and indeed we
إِلَيْهِ
towards Him
رَٰجِعُونَ
will return"

Allatheena itha asabathum museebatun qaloo inna lillahi wainna ilayhi raji'oona

Sahih International:

Who, when disaster strikes them, say, "Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return."

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [3] Ali Imran : 165

اَوَلَمَّاۤ اَصَابَتۡكُمۡ مُّصِيۡبَةٌ قَدۡ اَصَبۡتُمۡ مِّثۡلَيۡهَا ۙ قُلۡتُمۡ اَنّٰى هٰذَا‌ؕ قُلۡ هُوَ مِنۡ عِنۡدِ اَنۡفُسِكُمۡ ‌ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلٰى كُلِّ شَىۡءٍ قَدِيۡرٌ(آل عمران :165)

أَوَلَمَّآ
Or
أَصَٰبَتْكُم
when
مُّصِيبَةٌ
struck you
قَدْ
disaster
أَصَبْتُم
surely
مِّثْلَيْهَا
you had struck (them)
قُلْتُمْ
twice of it
أَنَّىٰ
you said
هَٰذَاۖ
"From where
قُلْ
(is) this?"
هُوَ
Say
مِنْ
"It
عِندِ
(is) from
أَنفُسِكُمْۗ
yourselves"
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
عَلَىٰ
(is) on
كُلِّ
every
شَىْءٍ
thing
قَدِيرٌ
All-Powerful

Awalamma asabatkum museebatun qad asabtum mithlayha qultum anna hatha qul huwa min 'indi anfusikum inna Allaha 'ala kulli shayin qadeerun

Sahih International:

Why [is it that] when a [single] disaster struck you [on the day of Uhud], although you had struck [the enemy in the battle of Badr] with one twice as great, you said, "From where is this?" Say, "It is from yourselves." Indeed, Allah is over all things competent.

Surah [4] An-Nisa' : 62

فَكَيۡفَ اِذَاۤ اَصَابَتۡهُمۡ مُّصِيۡبَةٌ ۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ اَيۡدِيۡهِمۡ ثُمَّ جَآءُوۡكَ يَحۡلِفُوۡنَ‌ۖ بِاللّٰهِ اِنۡ اَرَدۡنَاۤ اِلَّاۤ اِحۡسَانًـا وَّتَوۡفِيۡقًا(النساء :62)

فَكَيْفَ
So how
إِذَآ
when
أَصَٰبَتْهُم
befalls them
مُّصِيبَةٌۢ
disaster
بِمَا
for what
قَدَّمَتْ
sent forth
أَيْدِيهِمْ
their hands
ثُمَّ
then
جَآءُوكَ
they come to you
يَحْلِفُونَ
swearing
بِٱللَّهِ
by Allah
إِنْ
"Not
أَرَدْنَآ
we intended
إِلَّآ
except
إِحْسَٰنًا
good
وَتَوْفِيقًا
and reconciliation"

Fakayfa itha asabathum museebatun bima qaddamat aydeehim thumma jaooka yahlifoona biAllahi in aradna illa ihsanan watawfeeqan

Sahih International:

So how [will it be] when disaster strikes them because of what their hands have put forth and then they come to you swearing by Allah, "We intended nothing but good conduct and accommodation."

Surah [4] An-Nisa' : 72

وَاِنَّ مِنۡكُمۡ لَمَنۡ لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ‌ۚ فَاِنۡ اَصَابَتۡكُمۡ مُّصِيۡبَةٌ قَالَ قَدۡ اَنۡعَمَ اللّٰهُ عَلَىَّ اِذۡ لَمۡ اَكُنۡ مَّعَهُمۡ شَهِيۡدًا(النساء :72)

وَإِنَّ
And indeed
مِنكُمْ
among you
لَمَن
(is he) who
لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ
lags behind
فَإِنْ
then if
أَصَٰبَتْكُم
befalls you
مُّصِيبَةٌ
a disaster
قَالَ
he said
قَدْ
"Verily
أَنْعَمَ
(has) favored
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
عَلَىَّ
[on] me
إِذْ
[when]
لَمْ
(that) not
أَكُن
I was
مَّعَهُمْ
with them"
شَهِيدًا
present"

Wainna minkum laman layubattianna fain asabatkum museebatun qala qad an'ama Allahu 'alayya ith lam akun ma'ahum shaheedan

Sahih International:

And indeed, there is among you he who lingers behind; and if disaster strikes you, he says, " Allah has favored me in that I was not present with them."

Surah [5] Al-Ma'ida : 106

يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا شَهَادَةُ بَيۡنِكُمۡ اِذَا حَضَرَ اَحَدَكُمُ الۡمَوۡتُ حِيۡنَ الۡوَصِيَّةِ اثۡـنٰنِ ذَوَا عَدۡلٍ مِّنۡكُمۡ اَوۡ اٰخَرَانِ مِنۡ غَيۡـرِكُمۡ اِنۡ اَنۡـتُمۡ ضَرَبۡتُمۡ فِى الۡاَرۡضِ فَاَصَابَتۡكُمۡ مُّصِيۡبَةُ الۡمَوۡتِ‌ ؕ تَحۡبِسُوۡنَهُمَا مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ الصَّلٰوةِ فَيُقۡسِمٰنِ بِاللّٰهِ اِنِ ارۡتَبۡتُمۡ لَا نَشۡتَرِىۡ بِهٖ ثَمَنًا وَّلَوۡ كَانَ ذَا قُرۡبٰى‌ ۙ وَلَا نَـكۡتُمُ شَهَادَةَ ۙ اللّٰهِ اِنَّاۤ اِذًا لَّمِنَ الۡاٰثِمِيۡنَ‏(المائدة :106)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe!
شَهَٰدَةُ
(Take) testimony
بَيْنِكُمْ
among you
إِذَا
when
حَضَرَ
approaches
أَحَدَكُمُ
one of you
ٱلْمَوْتُ
[the] death
حِينَ
(at the) time (of making)
ٱلْوَصِيَّةِ
[the] a will
ٱثْنَانِ
two
ذَوَا
men
عَدْلٍ
just
مِّنكُمْ
among you
أَوْ
or
ءَاخَرَانِ
two others
مِنْ
from
غَيْرِكُمْ
other than you
إِنْ
if
أَنتُمْ
you
ضَرَبْتُمْ
(are) travel(ing)
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
فَأَصَٰبَتْكُم
then befalls you
مُّصِيبَةُ
calamity
ٱلْمَوْتِۚ
(of) [the] death
تَحْبِسُونَهُمَا
Detain both of them
مِنۢ
from
بَعْدِ
after
ٱلصَّلَوٰةِ
the prayer
فَيُقْسِمَانِ
and let them both swear
بِٱللَّهِ
by Allah
إِنِ
if
ٱرْتَبْتُمْ
you doubt
لَا
"Not
نَشْتَرِى
"we will exchange
بِهِۦ
it for
ثَمَنًا
a price
وَلَوْ
even if
كَانَ
he is
ذَا
(of)
قُرْبَىٰۙ
a near relative
وَلَا
and not
نَكْتُمُ
we will conceal
شَهَٰدَةَ
testimony
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
إِنَّآ
Indeed, we
إِذًا
then
لَّمِنَ
(will) surely (be) of
ٱلْءَاثِمِينَ
the sinners"

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo shahadatu baynikum itha hadara ahadakumu almawtu heena alwasiyyati ithnani thawa 'adlin minkum aw akharani min ghayrikum in antum darabtum fee alardi faasabatkum museebatu almawti tahbisoonahuma min ba'di alssalati fayuqsimani biAllahi ini irtabtum la nashtaree bihi thamanan walaw kana tha qurba wala naktumu shahadata Allahi inna ithan lamina alathimeena

Sahih International:

O you who have believed, testimony [should be taken] among you when death approaches one of you at the time of bequest - [that of] two just men from among you or two others from outside if you are traveling through the land and the disaster of death should strike you. Detain them after the prayer and let them both swear by Allah if you doubt [their testimony, saying], "We will not exchange our oath for a price, even if he should be a near relative, and we will not withhold the testimony of Allah . Indeed, we would then be of the sinful."

Surah [9] At-Tawba : 50

اِنۡ تُصِبۡكَ حَسَنَةٌ تَسُؤۡهُمۡ‌ ۚ وَاِنۡ تُصِبۡكَ مُصِيۡبَةٌ يَّقُوۡلُوۡا قَدۡ اَخَذۡنَاۤ اَمۡرَنَا مِنۡ قَبۡلُ وَيَتَوَلَّوْا وَّهُمۡ فَرِحُوۡنَ(التوبة :50)

إِن
If
تُصِبْكَ
befalls you
حَسَنَةٌ
good
تَسُؤْهُمْۖ
it distresses them
وَإِن
but if
تُصِبْكَ
befalls you
مُصِيبَةٌ
a calamity
يَقُولُوا۟
they say
قَدْ
"Verily
أَخَذْنَآ
we took
أَمْرَنَا
our matter
مِن
before"
قَبْلُ
before"
وَيَتَوَلَّوا۟
And they turn away
وَّهُمْ
while they
فَرِحُونَ
(are) rejoicing

In tusibka hasanatun tasuhum wain tusibka museebatun yaqooloo qad akhathna amrana min qablu wayatawallaw wahum farihoona

Sahih International:

If good befalls you, it distresses them; but if disaster strikes you, they say, "We took our matter [in hand] before," and turn away while they are rejoicing.

Surah [28] Al-Qasas : 47

وَلَوۡلَاۤ اَنۡ تُصِيۡبَـهُمۡ مُّصِيۡبَةٌۢ بِمَا قَدَّمَتۡ اَيۡدِيۡهِمۡ فَيَقُوۡلُوۡا رَبَّنَا لَوۡلَاۤ اَرۡسَلۡتَ اِلَـيۡنَا رَسُوۡلًا فَنَـتَّبِعَ اٰيٰتِكَ وَنَـكُوۡنَ مِنَ الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ(القصص :47)

وَلَوْلَآ
And if not
أَن
[that]
تُصِيبَهُم
struck them
مُّصِيبَةٌۢ
a disaster
بِمَا
for what
قَدَّمَتْ
had sent forth
أَيْدِيهِمْ
their hands
فَيَقُولُوا۟
and they would say
رَبَّنَا
"Our Lord!
لَوْلَآ
Why not
أَرْسَلْتَ
You sent
إِلَيْنَا
to us
رَسُولًا
a Messenger
فَنَتَّبِعَ
so we (could have) followed
ءَايَٰتِكَ
Your Verses
وَنَكُونَ
and we (would) have been
مِنَ
of
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
the believers?"

Walawla an tuseebahum museebatun bima qaddamat aydeehim fayaqooloo rabbana lawla arsalta ilayna rasoolan fanattabi'a ayatika wanakoona mina almumineena

Sahih International:

And if not that a disaster should strike them for what their hands put forth [of sins] and they would say, "Our Lord, why did You not send us a messenger so we could have followed Your verses and been among the believers?"...

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [42] Ash-Shura : 30

وَمَاۤ اَصَابَكُمۡ مِّنۡ مُّصِيۡبَةٍ فَبِمَا كَسَبَتۡ اَيۡدِيۡكُمۡ وَيَعۡفُوۡا عَنۡ كَثِيۡرٍؕ(الشورى :30)

وَمَآ
And whatever
أَصَٰبَكُم
befalls you
مِّن
of
مُّصِيبَةٍ
(the) misfortune
فَبِمَا
(is because) of what
كَسَبَتْ
have earned
أَيْدِيكُمْ
your hands
وَيَعْفُوا۟
But He pardons
عَن
[from]
كَثِيرٍ
much

Wama asabakum min museebatin fabima kasabat aydeekum waya'foo 'an katheerin

Sahih International:

And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned; but He pardons much.

Surah [64] At-Taghabun : 11

مَاۤ اَصَابَ مِنۡ مُّصِيۡبَةٍ اِلَّا بِاِذۡنِ اللّٰهِ‌ؕ وَمَنۡ يُّؤۡمِنۡۢ بِاللّٰهِ يَهۡدِ قَلۡبَهٗ‌ؕ وَاللّٰهُ بِكُلِّ شَىۡءٍ عَلِيۡمٌ(التغابن :11)

مَآ
Not
أَصَابَ
strikes
مِن
any
مُّصِيبَةٍ
disaster
إِلَّا
except
بِإِذْنِ
by (the) permission
ٱللَّهِۗ
(of) Allah
وَمَن
And whoever
يُؤْمِنۢ
believes
بِٱللَّهِ
in Allah
يَهْدِ
He guides
قَلْبَهُۥۚ
his heart
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
بِكُلِّ
of every
شَىْءٍ
thing
عَلِيمٌ
(is) All-Knowing

Ma asaba min museebatin illa biithni Allahi waman yumin biAllahi yahdi qalbahu waAllahu bikulli shayin 'aleemun

Sahih International:

No disaster strikes except by permission of Allah . And whoever believes in Allah - He will guide his heart. And Allah is Knowing of all things.
