يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ
who wraps himself!

Yaw ayyuhal muzzammil

O you who wraps himself [in clothing]

Tafsir

قُمِ
Stand
ٱلَّيْلَ
(in) the night
إِلَّا
except
قَلِيلًا
a little

Qumil laila illaa qaleelaa

Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little –

Tafsir

نِّصْفَهُۥٓ
Half of it
أَوِ
or
ٱنقُصْ
lessen
مِنْهُ
from it
قَلِيلًا
a little

Nisfahooo awinqus minhu qaleelaa

Half of it – or subtract from it a little

Tafsir

أَوْ
Or
زِدْ
add
عَلَيْهِ
to it
وَرَتِّلِ
and recite
ٱلْقُرْءَانَ
the Quran
تَرْتِيلًا
(with) measured rhythmic recitation

Aw zid 'alaihi wa rattilil Qur'aana tarteela

Or add to it, and recite the Quran with measured recitation.

Tafsir

إِنَّا
Indeed We
سَنُلْقِى
will cast
عَلَيْكَ
upon you
قَوْلًا
a Word
ثَقِيلًا
heavy

Innaa sanulqee 'alika qawalan saqeelaa

Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word.

Tafsir

إِنَّ
Indeed
نَاشِئَةَ
(the) rising
ٱلَّيْلِ
(at) the night
هِىَ
it
أَشَدُّ
(is) very hard
وَطْـًٔا
and most potent
وَأَقْوَمُ
and more suitable
قِيلًا
(for) Word

Inn naashi'atal laili hiya ashadddu wat anw wa aqwamu qeelaa

Indeed, the hours of the night are more effective for concurrence [of heart and tongue] and more suitable for words.

Tafsir

إِنَّ
Indeed
لَكَ
for you
فِى
in
ٱلنَّهَارِ
the day
سَبْحًا
(is) occupation
طَوِيلًا
prolonged

Inna laka fin nahaari sabhan taweelaa

Indeed, for you by day is prolonged occupation.

Tafsir

وَٱذْكُرِ
And remember
ٱسْمَ
(the) name
رَبِّكَ
(of) your Lord
وَتَبَتَّلْ
and devote yourself
إِلَيْهِ
to Him
تَبْتِيلًا
(with) devotion

Wazkuris ma rabbika wa tabattal ilaihi tabteelaa

And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion.

Tafsir

رَّبُّ
(The) Lord
ٱلْمَشْرِقِ
(of) the east
وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ
and the west;
لَآ
(there is) no
إِلَٰهَ
god
إِلَّا
except
هُوَ
Him
فَٱتَّخِذْهُ
so take Him
وَكِيلًا
(as) Disposer of Affairs

Rabbul mashriqi wal maghriibi laaa ilaaha illaa Huwa fattakhizhu wakeelaa

[He is] the Lord of the East and the West; there is no deity except Him, so take Him as Disposer of [your] affairs.

Tafsir

وَٱصْبِرْ
And be patient
عَلَىٰ
over
مَا
what
يَقُولُونَ
they say
وَٱهْجُرْهُمْ
and avoid them
هَجْرًا
an avoidance
جَمِيلًا
gracious

Wasbir 'alaa maa yaqoo loona wahjurhum hajran jameelaa

And be patient over what they say and avoid them with gracious avoidance.
