Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 10

اِذۡ اَوَى الۡفِتۡيَةُ اِلَى الۡـكَهۡفِ فَقَالُوۡا رَبَّنَاۤ اٰتِنَا مِنۡ لَّدُنۡكَ رَحۡمَةً وَّهَيِّئۡ لَـنَا مِنۡ اَمۡرِنَا رَشَدًا(الكهف :10)

إِذْ
When
أَوَى
retreated
ٱلْفِتْيَةُ
the youths
إِلَى
to
ٱلْكَهْفِ
the cave
فَقَالُوا۟
and they said
رَبَّنَآ
"Our Lord!
ءَاتِنَا
Grant us
مِن
from
لَّدُنكَ
Yourself
رَحْمَةً
Mercy
وَهَيِّئْ
and facilitate
لَنَا
for us
مِنْ
[from]
أَمْرِنَا
our affair
رَشَدًا
(in the) right way"

Ith awa alfityatu ila alkahfi faqaloo rabbana atina min ladunka rahmatan wahayyi lana min amrina rashadan

Sahih International:

[Mention] when the youths retreated to the cave and said, "Our Lord, grant us from Yourself mercy and prepare for us from our affair right guidance."

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 11

فَضَرَبۡنَا عَلٰٓى اٰذَانِهِمۡ فِى الۡـكَهۡفِ سِنِيۡنَ عَدَدًا ۙ‏(الكهف :11)

فَضَرَبْنَا
So We cast
عَلَىٰٓ
over
ءَاذَانِهِمْ
their ears
فِى
in
ٱلْكَهْفِ
the cave
سِنِينَ
years -
عَدَدًا
a number

Fadarabna 'ala athanihim fee alkahfi sineena 'adadan

Sahih International:

So We cast [a cover of sleep] over their ears within the cave for a number of years.

Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 12

ثُمَّ بَعَثۡنٰهُمۡ لِنَعۡلَمَ اَىُّ الۡحِزۡبَيۡنِ اَحۡصٰى لِمَا لَبِثُوۡۤا اَمَدًا(الكهف :12)

ثُمَّ
Then
بَعَثْنَٰهُمْ
We raised them up
لِنَعْلَمَ
that We make evident
أَىُّ
which
ٱلْحِزْبَيْنِ
(of) the two parties
أَحْصَىٰ
best calculated
لِمَا
for what
لَبِثُوٓا۟
(they had) remained
أَمَدًا
(in) time

Thumma ba'athnahum lina'lama ayyu alhizbayni ahsa lima labithoo amadan

Sahih International:

Then We awakened them that We might show which of the two factions was most precise in calculating what [extent] they had remained in time.

Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 13

نَحۡنُ نَقُصُّ عَلَيۡكَ نَبَاَهُمۡ بِالۡحَـقِّ‌ؕ اِنَّهُمۡ فِتۡيَةٌ اٰمَنُوۡا بِرَبِّهِمۡ وَزِدۡنٰهُمۡ هُدًى‌ۖ(الكهف :13)

نَّحْنُ
We
نَقُصُّ
narrate
عَلَيْكَ
to you
نَبَأَهُم
their story
بِٱلْحَقِّۚ
in truth
إِنَّهُمْ
Indeed they (were)
فِتْيَةٌ
youths
ءَامَنُوا۟
who believed
بِرَبِّهِمْ
in their Lord
وَزِدْنَٰهُمْ
and We increased them
هُدًى
(in) guidance

Nahnu naqussu 'alayka nabaahum bialhaqqi innahum fityatun amanoo birabbihim wazidnahum hudan

Sahih International:

It is We who relate to you, [O Muhammad], their story in truth. Indeed, they were youths who believed in their Lord, and We increased them in guidance.

Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 14

وَّرَبَطۡنَا عَلٰى قُلُوۡبِهِمۡ اِذۡ قَامُوۡا فَقَالُوۡا رَبُّنَا رَبُّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالۡاَرۡضِ لَنۡ نَّدۡعُوَا۫ مِنۡ دُوۡنِهٖۤ اِلٰهًـا‌ لَّـقَدۡ قُلۡنَاۤ اِذًا شَطَطًا‏(الكهف :14)

وَرَبَطْنَا
And We made firm
عَلَىٰ
[on]
قُلُوبِهِمْ
their hearts
إِذْ
when
قَامُوا۟
they stood up
فَقَالُوا۟
and said
رَبُّنَا
"Our Lord
رَبُّ
(is) the Lord
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
and the earth
لَن
Never
نَّدْعُوَا۟
we will invoke
مِن
besides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ
besides Him
إِلَٰهًاۖ
any god
لَّقَدْ
Certainly
قُلْنَآ
we would have said
إِذًا
then
شَطَطًا
an enormity

Warabatna 'ala quloobihim ith qamoo faqaloo rabbuna rabbu alssamawati waalardi lan nad'uwa min doonihi ilahan laqad qulna ithan shatatan

Sahih International:

And We made firm their hearts when they stood up and said, "Our Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth. Never will we invoke besides Him any deity. We would have certainly spoken, then, an excessive transgression.

Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 15

هٰٓؤُلَاۤءِ قَوۡمُنَا اتَّخَذُوۡا مِنۡ دُوۡنِهٖۤ اٰلِهَةً‌ ؕ لَوۡ لَا يَاۡتُوۡنَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ بِسُلۡطٰنٍۢ بَيِّنٍ‌ ؕ فَمَنۡ اَظۡلَمُ مِمَّنِ افۡتَـرٰى عَلَى اللّٰهِ كَذِبًا (الكهف :15)

هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
These
قَوْمُنَا
our people
ٱتَّخَذُوا۟
have taken
مِن
besides Him
دُونِهِۦٓ
besides Him
ءَالِهَةًۖ
gods
لَّوْلَا
Why not
يَأْتُونَ
they come
عَلَيْهِم
to them
بِسُلْطَٰنٍۭ
with an authority
بَيِّنٍۖ
clear?
فَمَنْ
And who
أَظْلَمُ
(is) more wrong
مِمَّنِ
than (one) who
ٱفْتَرَىٰ
invents
عَلَى
against
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
كَذِبًا
a lie?

Haolai qawmuna ittakhathoo min doonihi alihatan lawla yatoona 'alayhim bisultanin bayyinin faman athlamu mimmani iftara 'ala Allahi kathiban

Sahih International:

These, our people, have taken besides Him deities. Why do they not bring for [worship of] them a clear authority? And who is more unjust than one who invents about Allah a lie?"

Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 16

وَاِذِ اعۡتَزَلۡـتُمُوۡهُمۡ وَمَا يَعۡبُدُوۡنَ اِلَّا اللّٰهَ فَاۡوٗۤا اِلَى الۡـكَهۡفِ يَنۡشُرۡ لَـكُمۡ رَبُّكُمۡ مِّنۡ رَّحۡمَتِهٖ وَيُهَيِّئۡ لَـكُمۡ مِّنۡ اَمۡرِكُمۡ مِّرۡفَقًا(الكهف :16)

وَإِذِ
And when
ٱعْتَزَلْتُمُوهُمْ
you withdraw from them
وَمَا
and what
يَعْبُدُونَ
they worship
إِلَّا
except
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
فَأْوُۥٓا۟
then retreat
إِلَى
to
ٱلْكَهْفِ
the cave
يَنشُرْ
Will spread
لَكُمْ
for you
رَبُّكُم
your Lord
مِّن
of
رَّحْمَتِهِۦ
His Mercy
وَيُهَيِّئْ
and will facilitate
لَكُم
for you
مِّنْ
[from]
أَمْرِكُم
your affair
مِّرْفَقًا
(in) ease"

Waithi i'tazaltumoohum wama ya'budoona illa Allaha fawoo ila alkahfi yanshur lakum rabbukum min rahmatihi wayuhayyi lakum min amrikum mirfaqan

Sahih International:

[The youths said to one another], "And when you have withdrawn from them and that which they worship other than Allah, retreat to the cave. Your Lord will spread out for you of His mercy and will prepare for you from your affair facility."

Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 17

وَتَرَى الشَّمۡسَ اِذَا طَلَعَتۡ تَّزٰوَرُ عَنۡ كَهۡفِهِمۡ ذَاتَ الۡيَمِيۡنِ وَاِذَا غَرَبَتۡ تَّقۡرِضُهُمۡ ذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ وَهُمۡ فِىۡ فَجۡوَةٍ مِّنۡهُ‌ ؕ ذٰ لِكَ مِنۡ اٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ‌ ؕ مَنۡ يَّهۡدِ اللّٰهُ فَهُوَ الۡمُهۡتَدِ ‌ۚ وَمَنۡ يُّضۡلِلۡ فَلَنۡ تَجِدَ لَهٗ وَلِيًّا مُّرۡشِدًا(الكهف :17)

وَتَرَى
And you (might) have seen
ٱلشَّمْسَ
the sun
إِذَا
when
طَلَعَت
it rose
تَّزَٰوَرُ
inclining away
عَن
from
كَهْفِهِمْ
their cave
ذَاتَ
to
ٱلْيَمِينِ
the right
وَإِذَا
and when
غَرَبَت
it set
تَّقْرِضُهُمْ
passing away from them
ذَاتَ
to
ٱلشِّمَالِ
the left
وَهُمْ
while they
فِى
(lay) in
فَجْوَةٍ
the open space
مِّنْهُۚ
thereof
ذَٰلِكَ
That
مِنْ
(was) from
ءَايَٰتِ
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِۗ
(of) Allah
مَن
Whoever
يَهْدِ
Allah guides
ٱللَّهُ
Allah guides
فَهُوَ
and he
ٱلْمُهْتَدِۖ
(is) the guided one
وَمَن
and whoever
يُضْلِلْ
He lets go astray
فَلَن
then never
تَجِدَ
you will find
لَهُۥ
for him
وَلِيًّا
a protector
مُّرْشِدًا
a guide

Watara alshshamsa itha tala'at tazawaru 'an kahfihim thata alyameeni waitha gharabat taqriduhum thata alshshimali wahum fee fajwatin minhu thalika min ayati Allahi man yahdi Allahu fahuwa almuhtadi waman yudlil falan tajida lahu waliyyan murshidan

Sahih International:

And [had you been present], you would see the sun when it rose, inclining away from their cave on the right, and when it set, passing away from them on the left, while they were [laying] within an open space thereof. That was from the signs of Allah . He whom Allah guides is the [rightly] guided, but he whom He leaves astray - never will you find for him a protecting guide.

Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 18

وَ تَحۡسَبُهُمۡ اَيۡقَاظًا وَّهُمۡ رُقُوۡدٌ ‌‌ۖ وَنُـقَلِّبُهُمۡ ذَاتَ الۡيَمِيۡنِ وَ ذَاتَ الشِّمَالِ‌‌ ۖ وَكَلۡبُهُمۡ بَاسِطٌ ذِرَاعَيۡهِ بِالۡوَصِيۡدِ‌ ؕ لَوِ اطَّلَعۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ لَوَلَّيۡتَ مِنۡهُمۡ فِرَارًا وَّلَمُلِئۡتَ مِنۡهُمۡ رُعۡبًا(الكهف :18)

وَتَحْسَبُهُمْ
And you (would) think them
أَيْقَاظًا
awake
وَهُمْ
while they
رُقُودٌۚ
(were) asleep
وَنُقَلِّبُهُمْ
And We turned them
ذَاتَ
to
ٱلْيَمِينِ
the right
وَذَاتَ
and to
ٱلشِّمَالِۖ
the left
وَكَلْبُهُم
while their dog
بَٰسِطٌ
stretched
ذِرَاعَيْهِ
his two forelegs
بِٱلْوَصِيدِۚ
at the entrance
لَوِ
If
ٱطَّلَعْتَ
you had looked
عَلَيْهِمْ
at them
لَوَلَّيْتَ
you (would) have surely turned back
مِنْهُمْ
from them
فِرَارًا
(in) flight
وَلَمُلِئْتَ
and surely you would have been filled
مِنْهُمْ
by them
رُعْبًا
(with) terror

Watahsabuhum ayqathan wahum ruqoodun wanuqallibuhum thata alyameeni wathata alshshimali wakalbuhum basitun thira'ayhi bialwaseedi lawi ittala'ta 'alayhim lawallayta minhum firaran walamulita minhum ru'ban

Sahih International:

And you would think them awake, while they were asleep. And We turned them to the right and to the left, while their dog stretched his forelegs at the entrance. If you had looked at them, you would have turned from them in flight and been filled by them with terror.

Surah [18] Al-Kahf : 19

وَكَذٰلِكَ بَعَثۡنٰهُمۡ لِيَتَسَآءَلُوۡا بَيۡنَهُمۡ‌ ؕ قَالَ قَآٮِٕلٌ مِّنۡهُمۡ كَمۡ لَبِثۡتُمۡ ؕ قَالُوۡا لَبِثۡنَا يَوۡمًا اَوۡ بَعۡضَ يَوۡمٍ‌ ؕ قَالُوۡا رَبُّكُمۡ اَعۡلَمُ بِمَا لَبِثۡتُمۡ ؕ فَابۡعَثُوۡۤا اَحَدَكُمۡ بِوَرِقِكُمۡ هٰذِهٖۤ اِلَى الۡمَدِيۡنَةِ فَلۡيَنۡظُرۡ اَيُّهَاۤ اَزۡكٰى طَعَامًا فَلۡيَاۡتِكُمۡ بِرِزۡقٍ مِّنۡهُ وَلۡيَتَلَطَّفۡ وَلَا يُشۡعِرَنَّ بِكُمۡ اَحَدًا(الكهف :19)

وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And similarly
بَعَثْنَٰهُمْ
We raised them
لِيَتَسَآءَلُوا۟
that they might question
بَيْنَهُمْۚ
among them
قَالَ
Said
قَآئِلٌ
a speaker
مِّنْهُمْ
among them
كَمْ
"How long
لَبِثْتُمْۖ
have you remained?"
قَالُوا۟
They said
لَبِثْنَا
"We have remained
يَوْمًا
a day
أَوْ
or
بَعْضَ
a part
يَوْمٍۚ
(of) a day"
قَالُوا۟
They said
رَبُّكُمْ
"Your Lord
أَعْلَمُ
knows best
بِمَا
how long
لَبِثْتُمْ
you have remained
فَٱبْعَثُوٓا۟
So send
أَحَدَكُم
one of you
بِوَرِقِكُمْ
with this silver coin of yours
هَٰذِهِۦٓ
with this silver coin of yours
إِلَى
to
ٱلْمَدِينَةِ
the city
فَلْيَنظُرْ
and let him see
أَيُّهَآ
which is
أَزْكَىٰ
the purest
طَعَامًا
food
فَلْيَأْتِكُم
and let him bring to you
بِرِزْقٍ
provision
مِّنْهُ
from it
وَلْيَتَلَطَّفْ
and let him be cautious
وَلَا
And let not be aware
يُشْعِرَنَّ
And let not be aware
بِكُمْ
about you
أَحَدًا
anyone"

Wakathalika ba'athnahum liyatasaaloo baynahum qala qailun minhum kam labithtum qaloo labithna yawman aw ba'da yawmin qaloo rabbukum a'lamu bima labithtum faib'athoo ahadakum biwariqikum hathihi ila almadeenati falyanthur ayyuha azka ta'aman falyatikum birizqin minhu walyatalattaf wala yush'iranna bikum ahadan

Sahih International:

And similarly, We awakened them that they might question one another. Said a speaker from among them, "How long have you remained [here]?" They said, "We have remained a day or part of a day." They said, "Your Lord is most knowing of how long you remained. So send one of you with this silver coin of yours to the city and let him look to which is the best of food and bring you provision from it and let him be cautious. And let no one be aware of you.
