Tafsir

غُلِبَتِ
Have been defeated
ٱلرُّومُ
the Romans

Ghulibatir Room

The Byzantines have been defeated

Tafsir

فِىٓ
In
أَدْنَى
(the) nearest
ٱلْأَرْضِ
land
وَهُم
But they
مِّنۢ
after
بَعْدِ
after
غَلَبِهِمْ
their defeat
سَيَغْلِبُونَ
will overcome

Feee adnal ardi wa hummim ba'di ghalabihim sa ya ghliboon

In the nearest land. But they, after their defeat, will overcome

Tafsir

فِى
Within
بِضْعِ
a few
سِنِينَۗ
years
لِلَّهِ
For Allah
ٱلْأَمْرُ
(is) the command
مِن
before
قَبْلُ
before
وَمِنۢ
and after
بَعْدُۚ
and after
وَيَوْمَئِذٍ
And that day
يَفْرَحُ
will rejoice
ٱلْمُؤْمِنُونَ
the believers

Fee bid'i sineen; lillaahil amru min qablu wa mim ba'd; wa yawma'iziny yafrahul mu'minoon

Within three to nine years. To Allah belongs the command [i.e., decree] before and after. And that day the believers will rejoice

Tafsir

بِنَصْرِ
With (the) help
ٱللَّهِۚ
(of) Allah
يَنصُرُ
He helps
مَن
whom
يَشَآءُۖ
He wills
وَهُوَ
And He
ٱلْعَزِيزُ
(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلرَّحِيمُ
the Most Merciful

Binasril laa; yansuru mai yashaaa'u wa Huwal 'Azeezur Raheem

In the victory of Allah. He gives victory to whom He wills, and He is the Exalted in Might, the Merciful.

Tafsir

وَعْدَ
(It is the) Promise
ٱللَّهِۖ
(of) Allah
لَا
(Does) not
يُخْلِفُ
fail
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
وَعْدَهُۥ
(in) His promise
وَلَٰكِنَّ
but
أَكْثَرَ
most (of)
ٱلنَّاسِ
[the] people
لَا
(do) not
يَعْلَمُونَ
know

Wa'dal laahi laa yukhliful laahu wa'dahoo wa laakin na aksaran naasi laa ya'lamoon

[It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know.

Tafsir

يَعْلَمُونَ
They know
ظَٰهِرًا
(the) apparent
مِّنَ
of
ٱلْحَيَوٰةِ
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world
وَهُمْ
but they
عَنِ
about
ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
the Hereafter
هُمْ
[they]
غَٰفِلُونَ
(are) heedless

Ya'lamoona zaahiram minal hayaatid dunya wa hum 'anil Aakhirati hum ghaafiloon

They know what is apparent of the worldly life, but they, of the Hereafter, are unaware.

Tafsir

أَوَلَمْ
Do not
يَتَفَكَّرُوا۟
they ponder
فِىٓ
within
أَنفُسِهِمۗ
themselves?
مَّا
Not
خَلَقَ
Allah (has) created
ٱللَّهُ
Allah (has) created
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
and the earth
وَمَا
and what
بَيْنَهُمَآ
(is) between them
إِلَّا
except
بِٱلْحَقِّ
in truth
وَأَجَلٍ
and (for) a term
مُّسَمًّىۗ
appointed
وَإِنَّ
And indeed
كَثِيرًا
many
مِّنَ
of
ٱلنَّاسِ
the people
بِلِقَآئِ
in (the) meeting
رَبِّهِمْ
(with) their Lord
لَكَٰفِرُونَ
surely (are) disbelievers

Awalam yatafakkaroo feee anfusihim; maa khalaqal laahus samaawaati wal arda wa maa bainahumaaa illaa bil haqqi wa ajalim musammaa; wa inna kaseeram minan naasi biliqaaa'i Rabbihim lakaafiroon

Do they not contemplate within themselves? Allah has not created the heavens and the earth and what is between them except in truth and for a specified term. And indeed, many of the people, in the meeting with their Lord, are disbelievers.

Tafsir

أَوَلَمْ
Have not
يَسِيرُوا۟
they traveled
فِى
in
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
فَيَنظُرُوا۟
and observed
كَيْفَ
how
كَانَ
was
عَٰقِبَةُ
(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ
(of) those
مِن
before them?
قَبْلِهِمْۚ
before them?
كَانُوٓا۟
They were
أَشَدَّ
mightier
مِنْهُمْ
to them
قُوَّةً
(in) strength
وَأَثَارُوا۟
and they dug
ٱلْأَرْضَ
the earth
وَعَمَرُوهَآ
and built (on) it
أَكْثَرَ
more
مِمَّا
than what
عَمَرُوهَا
they have built (on) it
وَجَآءَتْهُمْ
And came (to) them
رُسُلُهُم
their Messengers
بِٱلْبَيِّنَٰتِۖ
with clear proofs
فَمَا
So not
كَانَ
was
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
لِيَظْلِمَهُمْ
to wrong them
وَلَٰكِن
but
كَانُوٓا۟
they were
أَنفُسَهُمْ
themselves
يَظْلِمُونَ
(doing) wrong

Awalm yaseeroo fil ardi fa-yanzuroo kaifa kaana 'aaqibatul lazeena min qablihim; kaanooo ashadda minhhum quwwatanw wa asaarul arda wa 'amaroohaaa aksara mimmaa 'amaroohaa wa jaaa'athum Rusuluhum bil baiyinaati famaa kaanal laahu liyazli mahum wa laakin kaanooo anfusahum yazlimoon

Have they not traveled through the earth and observed how was the end of those before them? They were greater than them in power, and they plowed [or excavated] the earth and built it up more than they [i.e., the Makkans] have built it up, and their messengers came to them with clear evidences. And Allah would not ever have wronged them, but they were wronging themselves.

Tafsir

ثُمَّ
Then
كَانَ
was
عَٰقِبَةَ
(the) end
ٱلَّذِينَ
(of) those who
أَسَٰٓـُٔوا۟
did evil -
ٱلسُّوٓأَىٰٓ
the evil
أَن
because
كَذَّبُوا۟
they denied
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
(the) Signs
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
وَكَانُوا۟
and were
بِهَا
of them
يَسْتَهْزِءُونَ
making mockery

Summa kaana'aaqibatal lazeena asaaa'us sooo aaa an kazzaboo bi aayaatil laahi wa kaanoo bihaa yastahzi'oon

Then the end of those who did evil was the worst [consequence] because they denied the signs of Allah and used to ridicule them.
