the blind man

An jaa-ahul 'a-maa

Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting].

Tafsir

وَمَا
But what
يُدْرِيكَ
would make you know
لَعَلَّهُۥ
that he might
يَزَّكَّىٰٓ
purify himself

Wa maa yudreeka la'allahu yaz zakkaa.

But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified

Tafsir

أَوْ
Or
يَذَّكَّرُ
be reminded
فَتَنفَعَهُ
so would benefit him
ٱلذِّكْرَىٰٓ
the reminder?

Au yaz zak karu fatanfa 'ahuz zikraa.

Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him?

Tafsir

أَمَّا
As for
مَنِ
(him) who
ٱسْتَغْنَىٰ
considers himself free from need

Amma manis taghnaa

As for he who thinks himself without need,

Tafsir

فَأَنتَ
So you
لَهُۥ
to him
تَصَدَّىٰ
give attention

Fa-anta lahu tasaddaa

To him you give attention.

Tafsir

وَمَا
And not
عَلَيْكَ
upon you
أَلَّا
that not
يَزَّكَّىٰ
he purifies himself

Wa ma 'alaika allaa yaz zakka.

And not upon you [is any blame] if he will not be purified.

Tafsir

وَأَمَّا
But as for
مَن
(he) who
جَآءَكَ
came to you
يَسْعَىٰ
striving

Wa amma man jaa-aka yas'a

But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge]

Tafsir

وَهُوَ
While he
يَخْشَىٰ
fears

Wahuwa yakhshaa,

While he fears [Allah],

Tafsir

فَأَنتَ
But you
عَنْهُ
from him
تَلَهَّىٰ
(are) distracted

Fa-anta 'anhu talah haa.

From him you are distracted.
