Surah [2] Al-Baqara : 45

وَاسۡتَعِيۡنُوۡا بِالصَّبۡرِ وَالصَّلٰوةِ ‌ؕ وَاِنَّهَا لَكَبِيۡرَةٌ اِلَّا عَلَى الۡخٰشِعِيۡنَۙ (البقرة :45)

وَٱسْتَعِينُوا۟
And seek help
بِٱلصَّبْرِ
through patience
وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِۚ
and the prayer;
وَإِنَّهَا
and indeed it
لَكَبِيرَةٌ
(is) surely difficult
إِلَّا
except
عَلَى
on
ٱلْخَٰشِعِينَ
the humble ones

Waista'eenoo bialssabri waalssalati wainnaha lakabeeratun illa 'ala alkhashi'eena

Sahih International:

And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah ]

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [3] Ali Imran : 199

وَاِنَّ مِنۡ اَهۡلِ الۡكِتٰبِ لَمَنۡ يُّؤۡمِنُ بِاللّٰهِ وَمَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡكُمۡ وَمَاۤ اُنۡزِلَ اِلَيۡهِمۡ خٰشِعِيۡنَ لِلّٰهِ ۙ لَا يَشۡتَرُوۡنَ بِاٰيٰتِ اللّٰهِ ثَمَنًا قَلِيۡلًا ‌ؕ اُولٰٓٮِٕكَ لَهُمۡ اَجۡرُهُمۡ عِنۡدَ رَبِّهِمۡ‌ؕ اِنَّ اللّٰهَ سَرِيۡعُ الۡحِسَابِ(آل عمران :199)

وَإِنَّ
And indeed
مِنْ
among
أَهْلِ
(the) People
ٱلْكِتَٰبِ
(of) the Book
لَمَن
(are those) who
يُؤْمِنُ
believe
بِٱللَّهِ
in Allah
وَمَآ
and what
أُنزِلَ
was revealed
إِلَيْكُمْ
to you
وَمَآ
and what
أُنزِلَ
was revealed
إِلَيْهِمْ
to them
خَٰشِعِينَ
humbly submissive
لِلَّهِ
to Allah
لَا
Not
يَشْتَرُونَ
(do) they exchange
بِـَٔايَٰتِ
[with] (the) Verses
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
ثَمَنًا
(for) a price
قَلِيلًاۗ
little
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those
لَهُمْ
for them
أَجْرُهُمْ
their reward
عِندَ
(is) with
رَبِّهِمْۗ
their Lord
إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
سَرِيعُ
(is) swift
ٱلْحِسَابِ
(in taking) the account

Wainna min ahli alkitabi laman yuminu biAllahi wama onzila ilaykum wama onzila ilayhim khashi'eena lillahi la yashtaroona biayati Allahi thamanan qaleelan olaika lahum ajruhum 'inda rabbihim inna Allaha saree'u alhisabi

Sahih International:

And indeed, among the People of the Scripture are those who believe in Allah and what was revealed to you and what was revealed to them, [being] humbly submissive to Allah . They do not exchange the verses of Allah for a small price. Those will have their reward with their Lord. Indeed, Allah is swift in account.

Surah [5] Al-Ma'ida : 54

يٰۤـاَيُّهَا الَّذِيۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا مَنۡ يَّرۡتَدَّ مِنۡكُمۡ عَنۡ دِيۡـنِهٖ فَسَوۡفَ يَاۡتِى اللّٰهُ بِقَوۡمٍ يُّحِبُّهُمۡ وَيُحِبُّوۡنَهٗۤ ۙ اَذِلَّةٍ عَلَى الۡمُؤۡمِنِيۡنَ اَعِزَّةٍ عَلَى الۡكٰفِرِيۡنَ يُجَاهِدُوۡنَ فِىۡ سَبِيۡلِ اللّٰهِ وَلَا يَخَافُوۡنَ لَوۡمَةَ لَاۤٮِٕمٍ‌ ؕ ذٰ لِكَ فَضۡلُ اللّٰهِ يُؤۡتِيۡهِ مَنۡ يَّشَآءُ‌ ؕ وَاللّٰهُ وَاسِعٌ عَلِيۡمٌ(المائدة :54)

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe!
مَن
Whoever
يَرْتَدَّ
turns back
مِنكُمْ
among you
عَن
from
دِينِهِۦ
his religion
فَسَوْفَ
then soon
يَأْتِى
(will be) brought
ٱللَّهُ
(by) Allah
بِقَوْمٍ
a people
يُحِبُّهُمْ
whom He loves
وَيُحِبُّونَهُۥٓ
and they love Him
أَذِلَّةٍ
humble
عَلَى
towards
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ
the believers
أَعِزَّةٍ
(and) stern
عَلَى
towards
ٱلْكَٰفِرِينَ
the disbelievers
يُجَٰهِدُونَ
striving
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
وَلَا
and not
يَخَافُونَ
fearing
لَوْمَةَ
the blame
لَآئِمٍۚ
(of) a critic
ذَٰلِكَ
That
فَضْلُ
(is the) Grace
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
يُؤْتِيهِ
He grants
مَن
whom
يَشَآءُۚ
He wills
وَٱللَّهُ
And Allah
وَٰسِعٌ
(is) All-Encompassing
عَلِيمٌ
All-Knowing

Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo man yartadda minkum 'an deenihi fasawfa yatee Allahu biqawmin yuhibbuhum wayuhibboonahu athillatin 'ala almumineena a'izzatin 'ala alkafireena yujahidoona fee sabeeli Allahi wala yakhafoona lawmata laimin thalika fadlu Allahi yuteehi man yashao waAllahu wasi'un 'aleemun

Sahih International:

O you who have believed, whoever of you should revert from his religion - Allah will bring forth [in place of them] a people He will love and who will love Him [who are] humble toward the believers, powerful against the disbelievers; they strive in the cause of Allah and do not fear the blame of a critic. That is the favor of Allah ; He bestows it upon whom He wills. And Allah is all-Encompassing and Knowing.

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [6] Al-An'am : 42

وَلَقَدۡ اَرۡسَلۡنَاۤ اِلٰٓى اُمَمٍ مِّنۡ قَبۡلِكَ فَاَخَذۡنٰهُمۡ بِالۡبَاۡسَآءِ وَالضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَتَضَرَّعُوۡنَ‏(الأنعام :42)

وَلَقَدْ
And certainly
أَرْسَلْنَآ
We sent (Messengers)
إِلَىٰٓ
to
أُمَمٍ
nations
مِّن
from
قَبْلِكَ
before you
فَأَخَذْنَٰهُم
then We seized them
بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ
with adversity
وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ
and hardship
لَعَلَّهُمْ
so that they may
يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
humble themselves

Walaqad arsalna ila omamin min qablika faakhathnahum bialbasai waalddarrai la'allahum yatadarra'oona

Sahih International:

And We have already sent [messengers] to nations before you, [O Muhammad]; then We seized them with poverty and hardship that perhaps they might humble themselves [to Us].

Surah [6] Al-An'am : 43

فَلَوۡلَاۤ اِذۡ جَآءَهُمۡ بَاۡسُنَا تَضَرَّعُوۡا وَلٰـكِنۡ قَسَتۡ قُلُوۡبُهُمۡ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيۡطٰنُ مَا كَانُوۡا يَعۡمَلُوۡنَ(الأنعام :43)

فَلَوْلَآ
Then why not
إِذْ
when
جَآءَهُم
came to them
بَأْسُنَا
Our punishment
تَضَرَّعُوا۟
they humbled themselves?
وَلَٰكِن
But
قَسَتْ
became hardened
قُلُوبُهُمْ
their hearts
وَزَيَّنَ
and made fair-seeming
لَهُمُ
to them
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنُ
the Shaitaan
مَا
what
كَانُوا۟
they used to
يَعْمَلُونَ
do

Falawla ith jaahum basuna tadarra'oo walakin qasat quloobuhum wazayyana lahumu alshshaytanu ma kanoo ya'maloona

Sahih International:

Then why, when Our punishment came to them, did they not humble themselves? But their hearts became hardened, and Satan made attractive to them that which they were doing.

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [6] Al-An'am : 63

قُلۡ مَنۡ يُّنَجِّيۡكُمۡ مِّنۡ ظُلُمٰتِ الۡبَرِّ وَالۡبَحۡرِ تَدۡعُوۡنَهٗ تَضَرُّعًا وَّخُفۡيَةً ۚ لَٮِٕنۡ اَنۡجٰٮنَا مِنۡ هٰذِهٖ لَـنَكُوۡنَنَّ مِنَ الشّٰكِرِيۡنَ‏(الأنعام :63)

قُلْ
Say
مَن
"Who
يُنَجِّيكُم
saves you
مِّن
from
ظُلُمَٰتِ
darkness[es]
ٱلْبَرِّ
(of) the land
وَٱلْبَحْرِ
and the sea
تَدْعُونَهُۥ
you call Him
تَضَرُّعًا
humbly
وَخُفْيَةً
and secretly
لَّئِنْ
"If
أَنجَىٰنَا
He saves us
مِنْ
from
هَٰذِهِۦ
this
لَنَكُونَنَّ
surely we will be
مِنَ
from
ٱلشَّٰكِرِينَ
the grateful ones"

Qul man yunajjeekum min thulumati albarri waalbahri tad'oonahu tadarru'an wakhufyatan lain anjana min hathihi lanakoonanna mina alshshakireena

Sahih International:

Say, "Who rescues you from the darknesses of the land and sea [when] you call upon Him imploring [aloud] and privately, 'If He should save us from this [crisis], we will surely be among the thankful.' "

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [7] Al-A'raf : 119

فَغُلِبُوۡا هُنَالِكَ وَانْقَلَبُوۡا صٰغِرِيۡنَ‌ۚ‏(الأعراف :119)

فَغُلِبُوا۟
So they were defeated
هُنَالِكَ
there
وَٱنقَلَبُوا۟
and returned
صَٰغِرِينَ
humiliated

Faghuliboo hunalika wainqalaboo saghireena

Sahih International:

And Pharaoh and his people were overcome right there and became debased.

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [7] Al-A'raf : 205

وَاذۡكُرْ رَّبَّكَ فِىۡ نَفۡسِكَ تَضَرُّعًا وَّخِيۡفَةً وَّدُوۡنَ الۡجَـهۡرِ مِنَ الۡقَوۡلِ بِالۡغُدُوِّ وَالۡاٰصَالِ وَلَا تَكُنۡ مِّنَ الۡغٰفِلِيۡنَ(الأعراف :205)

وَٱذْكُر
And remember
رَّبَّكَ
your Lord
فِى
in
نَفْسِكَ
yourself
تَضَرُّعًا
humbly
وَخِيفَةً
and (in) fear
وَدُونَ
and without
ٱلْجَهْرِ
the loudness
مِنَ
of
ٱلْقَوْلِ
[the] words
بِٱلْغُدُوِّ
in the mornings
وَٱلْءَاصَالِ
and (in) the evenings
وَلَا
And (do) not
تَكُن
be
مِّنَ
among
ٱلْغَٰفِلِينَ
the heedless

Waothkur rabbaka fee nafsika tadarru'an wakheefatan wadoona aljahri mina alqawli bialghuduwwi waalasali wala takun mina alghafileena

Sahih International:

And remember your Lord within yourself in humility and in fear without being apparent in speech - in the mornings and the evenings. And do not be among the heedless.

Tafsir (More Translations)
Surah [7] Al-A'raf : 55

اُدۡعُوۡا رَبَّكُمۡ تَضَرُّعًا وَّخُفۡيَةً‌ ؕ اِنَّهٗ لَا يُحِبُّ الۡمُعۡتَدِيۡنَ‌(الأعراف :55)

ٱدْعُوا۟
Call upon
رَبَّكُمْ
your Lord
تَضَرُّعًا
humbly
وَخُفْيَةًۚ
and privately
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed He
لَا
(does) not
يُحِبُّ
love
ٱلْمُعْتَدِينَ
the transgressors

Od'oo rabbakum tadarru'an wakhufyatan innahu la yuhibbu almu'tadeena

Sahih International:

Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.

Surah [7] Al-A'raf : 94

وَمَاۤ اَرۡسَلۡنَا فِىۡ قَرۡيَةٍ مِّنۡ نَّبِىٍّ اِلَّاۤ اَخَذۡنَاۤ اَهۡلَهَا بِالۡبَاۡسَآءِ وَالضَّرَّآءِ لَعَلَّهُمۡ يَضَّرَّعُوۡنَ(الأعراف :94)

وَمَآ
And not

a city
مِّن

نَّبِىٍّ

أَخَذْنَآ

its people
بِٱلْبَأْسَآءِ

وَٱلضَّرَّآءِ
and hardship
لَعَلَّهُمْ
so that they may
يَضَّرَّعُونَ
(become) humble

Wama arsalna fee qaryatin min nabiyyin illa akhathna ahlaha bialbasai waalddarrai la'allahum yaddarra'oona

Sahih International:

And We sent to no city a prophet [who was denied] except that We seized its people with poverty and hardship that they might humble themselves [to Allah ].
