He said
hāulāi
"These
banātī
(are) my daughters
in
إِن
if
kuntum
you would be
fāʿilīna
doers"

[Lot] said, "These are my daughters – if you would be doers [of lawful marriage]."

laʿamruka
By your life
innahum
indeed they
lafī
were in
sakratihim
their intoxication
yaʿmahūna
wandering blindly

By your life, [O Muhammad], indeed they were, in their intoxication, wandering blindly.

fa-akhadhathumu
So seized them
l-ṣayḥatu
the awful cry
mush'riqīna
at sunrise

So the shriek seized them at sunrise.

fajaʿalnā
And We made
ʿāliyahā
its highest (part)
sāfilahā
its lowest
wa-amṭarnā
and We rained
ʿalayhim
upon them
ḥijāratan
stones
min
of
sijjīlin
baked clay

And We made the highest part [of the city] its lowest and rained upon them stones of hard clay.

that
laāyātin
(are) the Signs
lil'mutawassimīna
for those who discern

Indeed in that are signs for those who discern.

wa-innahā
And indeed it
labisabīlin
(is) on a road
muqīmin
established

And indeed, they [i.e., those cities] are [situated] on an established road.

surely (is) a Sign
lil'mu'minīna
for the believers

Indeed in that is a sign for the believers.

(the) companions
l-aykati
(of) the wood
laẓālimīna
surely wrongdoers

And the companions of the thicket [i.e., the people of Madyan] were [also] wrongdoers,

fa-intaqamnā
So We took retribution
min'hum
from them
wa-innahumā
and indeed they both
labi-imāmin
(were) on a highway
mubīnin
clear

So We took retribution from them, and indeed, both [cities] are on a clear highway.

(the) companions
l-ḥij'ri
(of) the Rocky Tract
l-mur'salīna
the Messengers

And certainly did the companions of al-Hijr [i.e., the Thamud] deny the messengers.
