وَٱمْرَأَتُهُۥ
And his wife
قَآئِمَةٌ
(was) standing
فَضَحِكَتْ
and she laughed
فَبَشَّرْنَٰهَا
Then We gave her glad tidings
بِإِسْحَٰقَ
of Ishaq
وَمِن
and after
وَرَآءِ
and after
إِسْحَٰقَ
Isaac
يَعْقُوبَ
(of) Yaqub

Wamra atuhoo qaaa'imatun fadahikat fabashsharnaahaa bi Ishaaqa wa minw waraaa'i Ishaaqa Ya'qoob

And his wife was standing, and she smiled. Then We gave her good tidings of Isaac and after Isaac, Jacob.

Tafsir

قَالَتْ
She said
يَٰوَيْلَتَىٰٓ
"Woe to me!
ءَأَلِدُ
Shall I bear a child
وَأَنَا۠
while I am
عَجُوزٌ
an old woman
وَهَٰذَا
and this
بَعْلِى
my husband
شَيْخًاۖ
(is) an old man?
إِنَّ
Indeed
هَٰذَا
this
لَشَىْءٌ
(is) surely a thing
عَجِيبٌ
amazing"

Qaalat yaa wailataaa 'aalidu wa ana 'ajoozunw wa haaza ba'lee shaikhan inna haazaa lashai'un 'ajeeb

She said, "Woe to me! Shall I give birth while I am an old woman and this, my husband, is an old man? Indeed, this is an amazing thing!"

Tafsir

قَالُوٓا۟
They said
أَتَعْجَبِينَ
"Are you amazed
مِنْ
at
أَمْرِ
(the) decree of Allah?
ٱللَّهِۖ
(the) decree of Allah?
رَحْمَتُ
The Mercy of Allah
ٱللَّهِ
The Mercy of Allah
وَبَرَكَٰتُهُۥ
and His blessings
عَلَيْكُمْ
(be) upon you
أَهْلَ
people
ٱلْبَيْتِۚ
(of) the house
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed, He
حَمِيدٌ
(is) All-Praiseworthy
مَّجِيدٌ
All-Glorious"

Qaalooo ata'jabeena min amril laahi rahmatul laahi wa barakaatuho 'alaikum Ahlal Bayt; innahoo Hameedum Majeed

They said, "Are you amazed at the decree of Allah? May the mercy of Allah and His blessings be upon you, people of the house. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy and Honorable."

Tafsir

فَلَمَّا
And when
ذَهَبَ
(had) gone away
عَنْ
from
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
Ibrahim
ٱلرَّوْعُ
the fright
وَجَآءَتْهُ
and had reached him
ٱلْبُشْرَىٰ
the glad tidings
يُجَٰدِلُنَا
he argued with Us
فِى
concerning
قَوْمِ
the people
لُوطٍ
of Lut

Falammaa zahaba an Ibraaheemar raw'u wa jaaa'at hul bushraaa yujaadilunaa fee qawmi Loot

And when the fright had left Abraham and the good tidings had reached him, he began to argue [i.e., plead] with Us concerning the people of Lot.

Tafsir

إِنَّ
Indeed
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
Ibrahim
لَحَلِيمٌ
(was) certainly forbearing
أَوَّٰهٌ
imploring
مُّنِيبٌ
and oft-returning

Inna Ibraaheema lahaleemun awwwaahum muneeb

Indeed, Abraham was forbearing, grieving and [frequently] returning [to Allah].

Tafsir

يَٰٓإِبْرَٰهِيمُ
O Ibrahim!
أَعْرِضْ
Turn away
عَنْ
from
هَٰذَآۖ
this
إِنَّهُۥ
Indeed it
قَدْ
certainly
جَآءَ
has come
أَمْرُ
(the) Command
رَبِّكَۖ
(of) your Lord
وَإِنَّهُمْ
and indeed [they]
ءَاتِيهِمْ
(will) come (for) them
عَذَابٌ
a punishment
غَيْرُ
(which) cannot
مَرْدُودٍ
(be) repelled

Yaaa Ibraaheemu a'rid 'an haazaaa innahoo qad jaaa'a amru Rabbika wa innahum aateehim 'azaabun ghairun mardood

[The angels said], "O Abraham, give up this [plea]. Indeed, the command of your Lord has come, and indeed, there will reach them a punishment that cannot be repelled."

Tafsir

وَلَمَّا
And when
جَآءَتْ
came
رُسُلُنَا
Our messengers
لُوطًا
(to) Lut
سِىٓءَ
he was distressed
بِهِمْ
for them
وَضَاقَ
and felt straitened
بِهِمْ
for them
ذَرْعًا
(and) uneasy
وَقَالَ
and said
هَٰذَا
"This
يَوْمٌ
(is) a day
عَصِيبٌ
distressful"

Wa lammaa jaaa'at Rusulunaa Lootan seee'a bihim wa daaqa bihim zar'anw wa qaala haazaa yawmun 'aseeb

And when Our messengers, [the angels], came to Lot, he was anguished for them and felt for them great discomfort and said, "This is a trying day."

Tafsir

وَجَآءَهُۥ
And came (to) him
قَوْمُهُۥ
his people
يُهْرَعُونَ
rushing
إِلَيْهِ
to him
وَمِن
and before
قَبْلُ
and before
كَانُوا۟
they (had) been
يَعْمَلُونَ
doing
ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِۚ
the evil deeds
قَالَ
He said
يَٰقَوْمِ
"O my people!
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
These
بَنَاتِى
(are) my daughters
هُنَّ
they
أَطْهَرُ
(are) purer
لَكُمْۖ
for you
فَٱتَّقُوا۟
So fear
ٱللَّهَ
Allah
وَلَا
and (do) not
تُخْزُونِ
disgrace me
فِى
concerning
ضَيْفِىٓۖ
my guests
أَلَيْسَ
Is (there) not
مِنكُمْ
among you
رَجُلٌ
a man
رَّشِيدٌ
right-minded?"

Wa jaaa'ahoo qawmuhoo yuhra'oona ilaihi wa min qablu kaanoo ya'maloonas saiyiaat; qaala yaa qawmi haaa'ulaaa'i banaatee hunna atharu lakum fattaqul laaha wa laa tukhzooni fee daifee alaisa minkum rajulur rasheed

And his people came hastening to him, and before [this] they had been doing evil deeds. He said, "O my people, these are my daughters; they are purer for you. So fear Allah and do not disgrace me concerning my guests. Is there not among you a man of reason?"

Tafsir

قَالُوا۟
They said
لَقَدْ
"Verily
عَلِمْتَ
you know
مَا
(that) not
لَنَا
we have
فِى
concerning
بَنَاتِكَ
your daughters
مِنْ
any
حَقٍّ
right
وَإِنَّكَ
And indeed you
لَتَعْلَمُ
surely know
مَا
what
نُرِيدُ
we want"

Qaaloo laqad 'alimta maa lanaa fee banastika min haqq, wa innaka lata'lamu maa nureed

They said, "You have already known that we have not concerning your daughters [i.e., women] any claim [i.e., desire], and indeed, you know what we want."

Tafsir

قَالَ
He said
لَوْ
"If
أَنَّ
that
لِى
I had
بِكُمْ
over you
قُوَّةً
power
أَوْ
or
ءَاوِىٓ
I could take refuge
إِلَىٰ
in
رُكْنٍ
a support
شَدِيدٍ
strong"

Qaala law anna lee bikum quwwatan aw aaweee ilaa ruknin shadeed

He said, "If only I had against you some power or could take refuge in a strong support."
