فَفَرَرْتُ مِنْكُمْ لَمَّا خِفْتُكُمْ فَوَهَبَ لِيْ رَبِّيْ حُكْمًا وَّجَعَلَنِيْ مِنَ الْمُرْسَلِيْنَ   ( الشعراء: ٢١ )

fafarartu
فَفَرَرْتُ
So I fled
minkum
مِنكُمْ
from you
lammā
لَمَّا

khif'tukum
خِفْتُكُمْ
I feared you
fawahaba
فَوَهَبَ
But granted
لِى
to me
rabbī
رَبِّى
my Lord
ḥuk'man
حُكْمًا
judgment
wajaʿalanī
وَجَعَلَنِى
and made me
mina
مِنَ
of
l-mur'salīna
ٱلْمُرْسَلِينَ
the Messengers

So I fled from you when I feared you. Then my Lord granted me judgement [i.e., wisdom and prophet hood] and appointed me [as one] of the messengers.

Tafsir

وَتِلْكَ نِعْمَةٌ تَمُنُّهَا عَلَيَّ اَنْ عَبَّدْتَّ بَنِيْٓ اِسْرَاۤءِيْلَ ۗ  ( الشعراء: ٢٢ )

watil'ka
وَتِلْكَ
And this
niʿ'matun
نِعْمَةٌ
(is the) favor
tamunnuhā
تَمُنُّهَا
with which you reproach
ʿalayya
عَلَىَّ
[on] me
an
أَنْ
that
ʿabbadtta
عَبَّدتَّ
you have enslaved
banī
بَنِىٓ
(the) Children of Israel"
is'rāīla
إِسْرَٰٓءِيلَ
(the) Children of Israel"

And is this a favor of which you remind me – that you have enslaved the Children of Israel?"

Tafsir

قَالَ فِرْعَوْنُ وَمَا رَبُّ الْعٰلَمِيْنَ ۗ   ( الشعراء: ٢٣ )

Firaun said

فِرْعَوْنُ
Firaun said
wamā
وَمَا
"And what
rabbu
رَبُّ
(is the) Lord
l-ʿālamīna
ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
(of) the worlds?"

Said Pharaoh, "And what is the Lord of the worlds?"

Tafsir

قَالَ رَبُّ السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَاۗ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ مُّوْقِنِيْنَ   ( الشعراء: ٢٤ )

He said
rabbu
رَبُّ
"Lord
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
(of) the heavens
wal-arḍi
وَٱلْأَرْضِ
and the earth
wamā
وَمَا
and whatever
baynahumā
بَيْنَهُمَآۖ
(is) between them
in
إِن
if
kuntum
كُنتُم
you (should) be
mūqinīna
مُّوقِنِينَ
convinced"

[Moses] said, "The Lord of the heavens and earth and that between them, if you should be convinced."

Tafsir

قَالَ لِمَنْ حَوْلَهٗٓ اَلَا تَسْتَمِعُوْنَ   ( الشعراء: ٢٥ )

He said

لِمَنْ
to those
ḥawlahu
حَوْلَهُۥٓ
around him
alā
أَلَا
"Do not
tastamiʿūna
تَسْتَمِعُونَ
you hear?"

[Pharaoh] said to those around him, "Do you not hear?"

Tafsir

قَالَ رَبُّكُمْ وَرَبُّ اٰبَاۤىِٕكُمُ الْاَوَّلِيْنَ   ( الشعراء: ٢٦ )

رَبُّكُمْ
"Your Lord
warabbu
وَرَبُّ
and (the) Lord
ābāikumu
ءَابَآئِكُمُ
(of) your forefathers"
l-awalīna
ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ
(of) your forefathers"

[Moses] said, "Your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers."

Tafsir

قَالَ اِنَّ رَسُوْلَكُمُ الَّذِيْٓ اُرْسِلَ اِلَيْكُمْ لَمَجْنُوْنٌ   ( الشعراء: ٢٧ )

إِنَّ
"Indeed
rasūlakumu
رَسُولَكُمُ
your Messenger
alladhī
ٱلَّذِىٓ
who
ur'sila
أُرْسِلَ
has been sent
ilaykum
إِلَيْكُمْ
to you
lamajnūnun
لَمَجْنُونٌ
(is) surely mad"

[Pharaoh] said, "Indeed, your 'messenger' who has been sent to you is mad."

Tafsir

قَالَ رَبُّ الْمَشْرِقِ وَالْمَغْرِبِ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَاۗ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ تَعْقِلُوْنَ   ( الشعراء: ٢٨ )

He said
rabbu
رَبُّ
"Lord
l-mashriqi
ٱلْمَشْرِقِ
(of) the east
wal-maghribi
وَٱلْمَغْرِبِ
and the west
wamā
وَمَا
and whatever
baynahumā
بَيْنَهُمَآۖ
(is) between them
in
إِن
if
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
you were
taʿqilūna
تَعْقِلُونَ
(to) reason"

[Moses] said, "Lord of the east and the west and that between them, if you were to reason."

Tafsir

قَالَ لَىِٕنِ اتَّخَذْتَ اِلٰهًا غَيْرِيْ لَاَجْعَلَنَّكَ مِنَ الْمَسْجُوْنِيْنَ   ( الشعراء: ٢٩ )

He said

لَئِنِ
"If
ittakhadhta
ٱتَّخَذْتَ
you take
ilāhan
إِلَٰهًا
a god
ghayrī
غَيْرِى
other than me
la-ajʿalannaka
لَأَجْعَلَنَّكَ
I will surely make you
mina
مِنَ
among
l-masjūnīna
ٱلْمَسْجُونِينَ
those imprisoned"

[Pharaoh] said, "If you take a god other than me, I will surely place you among those imprisoned."

Tafsir

قَالَ اَوَلَوْ جِئْتُكَ بِشَيْءٍ مُّبِيْنٍ   ( الشعراء: ٣٠ )

"Even if

جِئْتُكَ
I bring you
bishayin
بِشَىْءٍ
something
mubīnin
مُّبِينٍ
manifest?"

[Moses] said, "Even if I brought you something [i.e., proof] manifest?"
