يَٰٓأَيُّهَا
O you
ٱلَّذِينَ
who
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe[d]!
خُذُوا۟
Take
حِذْرَكُمْ
your precautions
فَٱنفِرُوا۟
and advance
ثُبَاتٍ
(in) groups
أَوِ
or
ٱنفِرُوا۟
advance
جَمِيعًا
all together

Yaaa aiyuhal lazeena aamanoo khuzoo hizrakum fanfiroo subaain awin firoo jamee'aa

O you who have believed, take your precaution and [either] go forth in companies or go forth all together.

Tafsir

وَإِنَّ
And indeed
مِنكُمْ
among you
لَمَن
(is he) who
لَّيُبَطِّئَنَّ
lags behind
فَإِنْ
then if
أَصَٰبَتْكُم
befalls you
مُّصِيبَةٌ
a disaster
قَالَ
he said
قَدْ
"Verily
أَنْعَمَ
(has) favored
ٱللَّهُ
Allah
عَلَىَّ
[on] me
إِذْ
[when]
لَمْ
(that) not
أَكُن
I was
مَّعَهُمْ
with them"
شَهِيدًا
present"

Wa inna minkum lamal la yubatti'anna fa in asaabatkum museebatun qaala qad an'amal laahu 'alaiya iz lam akum ma'ahum shaheeda

And indeed, there is among you he who lingers behind; and if disaster strikes you, he says, "Allah has favored me in that I was not present with them."

Tafsir

وَلَئِنْ
And if
أَصَٰبَكُمْ
befalls you
فَضْلٌ
bounty
مِّنَ
from
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
لَيَقُولَنَّ
he would surely say
كَأَن
as if
لَّمْ
(had) not
تَكُنۢ
there been
بَيْنَكُمْ
between you
وَبَيْنَهُۥ
and between him
مَوَدَّةٌ
any affection
يَٰلَيْتَنِى
"Oh! I wish
كُنتُ
I had been
مَعَهُمْ
with them
فَأَفُوزَ
then I would have attained
فَوْزًا
a success
عَظِيمًا
great"

Wa la'in asaabakum fadlum minal laahi la yaqoolanna ka al lam takum bainakum wa bainahoo mawaddatuny yaa laitanee kuntu ma'ahum fa afooza fawzan 'azeemaa

But if bounty comes to you from Allah, he will surely say, as if [i.e., showing that] there had never been between you and him any affection, "Oh, I wish I had been with them so I could have attained a great attainment."

Tafsir

فَلْيُقَٰتِلْ
So let fight
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
يَشْرُونَ
sell
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world
بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِۚ
for the Hereafter
وَمَن
And whoever
يُقَٰتِلْ
fights
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
فَيُقْتَلْ
then he is killed
أَوْ
or
يَغْلِبْ
achieves victory
فَسَوْفَ
then soon
نُؤْتِيهِ
We will grant him
أَجْرًا
a reward
عَظِيمًا
a great

Falyuqaatil fee sabeelil laahil lazeena yashroonal hayaatad dunyaa bil Aakhirah; wa many-uqaatil fee sabeelil laahi fa yuqtal aw yaghlib fasawfa nu'teehi ajran 'azeemaa

So let those fight in the cause of Allah who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter. And he who fights in the cause of Allah and is killed or achieves victory – We will bestow upon him a great reward.

Tafsir

وَمَا
And what
لَكُمْ
for you
لَا
(that) not
تُقَٰتِلُونَ
you fight
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
وَٱلْمُسْتَضْعَفِينَ
and (for) those who are weak
مِنَ
among
ٱلرِّجَالِ
the men
وَٱلنِّسَآءِ
and the women
وَٱلْوِلْدَٰنِ
and the children
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
يَقُولُونَ
say
رَبَّنَآ
"Our Lord
أَخْرِجْنَا
take us out
مِنْ
of
هَٰذِهِ
this
ٱلْقَرْيَةِ
[the] town
ٱلظَّالِمِ
[the] oppressor(s)
أَهْلُهَا
(are) its people
وَٱجْعَل
and appoint
لَّنَا
for us
مِن
from
لَّدُنكَ
Yourself
وَلِيًّا
a protector
وَٱجْعَل
and appoint
لَّنَا
for us
مِن
from
لَّدُنكَ
Yourself
نَصِيرًا
a helper

Wa maa lakum laa tuqaatiloona fee sabeelil laahi walmustad'afeena minar rijaali wannisaaa'i walwildaanil lazeena yaqooloona Rabbanaaa akhrijnaa min haazihil qaryatiz zaalimi ahluhaa waj'al lanaa mil ladunka waliyanw waj'al lanaa mil ladunka naseeraa

And what is [the matter] with you that you fight not in the cause of Allah and [for] the oppressed among men, women, and children who say, "Our Lord, take us out of this city of oppressive people and appoint for us from Yourself a protector and appoint for us from Yourself a helper"?

Tafsir

ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
believe
يُقَٰتِلُونَ
they fight
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱللَّهِۖ
(of) Allah;
وَٱلَّذِينَ
and those
كَفَرُوا۟
who disbelieve
يُقَٰتِلُونَ
they fight
فِى
in
سَبِيلِ
(the) way
ٱلطَّٰغُوتِ
(of) the false deities
فَقَٰتِلُوٓا۟
So fight (against)
أَوْلِيَآءَ
(the) friends
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِۖ
(of) the Shaitaan
إِنَّ
Indeed
كَيْدَ
(the) strategy
ٱلشَّيْطَٰنِ
(of) the Shaitaan
كَانَ
is
ضَعِيفًا
weak

Allazeena aamanoo yuqaatiloona fee sabeelil laahi wallazeena kafaroo yuqaatiloona fee sabeelit Taaghoot faqaatiloo awliyaaa'ash Shaitaan; inna kaidash Shairaani kaana da'eefa

Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah, and those who disbelieve fight in the cause of Taghut. So fight against the allies of Satan. Indeed, the plot of Satan has ever been weak.

Tafsir

أَلَمْ
Have not
تَرَ
you seen
إِلَى
[towards]
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
قِيلَ
(when) it was said
لَهُمْ
to them
كُفُّوٓا۟
"Restrain
أَيْدِيَكُمْ
your hands
وَأَقِيمُوا۟
and establish
ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ
the prayer
وَءَاتُوا۟
and give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ
the zakah?"
فَلَمَّا
Then when
كُتِبَ
was ordained
عَلَيْهِمُ
on them
ٱلْقِتَالُ
the fighting
إِذَا
then
فَرِيقٌ
a group
مِّنْهُمْ
of them
يَخْشَوْنَ
[they] fear
ٱلنَّاسَ
the people
كَخَشْيَةِ
as (they) fear
ٱللَّهِ
Allah
أَوْ
or
أَشَدَّ
more intense
خَشْيَةًۚ
fear
وَقَالُوا۟
and they said
رَبَّنَا
"Our Lord
لِمَ
why
كَتَبْتَ
have You ordained
عَلَيْنَا
upon us
ٱلْقِتَالَ
[the] fighting?
لَوْلَآ
Why not
أَخَّرْتَنَآ
You postpone (it for) us
إِلَىٰٓ
to
أَجَلٍ
a term"
قَرِيبٍۗ
near"
قُلْ
Say
مَتَٰعُ
"Enjoyment
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world
قَلِيلٌ
(is) little
وَٱلْءَاخِرَةُ
and the Hereafter
خَيْرٌ
(is) better
لِّمَنِ
for whoever
ٱتَّقَىٰ
fears (Allah)
وَلَا
and not
تُظْلَمُونَ
you will be wronged
فَتِيلًا
(even as much as) a hair on a date-seed"

Alam tara ilal lazeena qeela lahum kuffooo aidiyakum wa aqeemus Salaata w aaatuz Zakaata falammaa kutiba 'alaihimul qitaalu izaa fareequm minhum yakhshawnnan naasa kakhashyatil laahi aw ashadda khashyah; wa qaaloo Rabbanaa lima katabta 'alainal qitaala law laaa akhkhartanaa ilaaa ajalin qareeb; qul mataa'ud dunyaa qaleelunw wal Aakhiratu khairul limanit taqaa wa laa tuzlamoona fateelaa

Have you not seen those who were told, "Restrain your hands [from fighting] and establish prayer and give Zakah"? But then when battle was ordained for them, at once a party of them feared men as they fear Allah or with [even] greater fear. They said, "Our Lord, why have You decreed upon us fighting? If only You had postponed [it for] us for a short time." Say, "The enjoyment of this world is little, and the Hereafter is better for he who fears Allah. And injustice will not be done to you, [even] as much as a thread [inside a date seed]."

Tafsir

أَيْنَمَا
Wherever
تَكُونُوا۟
you be
يُدْرِككُّمُ
will overtake you
ٱلْمَوْتُ
[the] death
وَلَوْ
even if
كُنتُمْ
you are
فِى
in
بُرُوجٍ
towers
مُّشَيَّدَةٍۗ
lofty
وَإِن
And if
تُصِبْهُمْ
befalls them
حَسَنَةٌ
any good
يَقُولُوا۟
they say
هَٰذِهِۦ
"This
مِنْ
(is)
عِندِ
from
ٱللَّهِۖ
Allah"
وَإِن
And if
تُصِبْهُمْ
befalls them
سَيِّئَةٌ
any evil
يَقُولُوا۟
they say
هَٰذِهِۦ
"This
مِنْ
(is) from
عِندِكَۚ
you"
قُلْ
Say
كُلٌّ
"All
مِّنْ
(is)"
عِندِ
from"
ٱللَّهِۖ
Allah"
فَمَالِ
So what (is wrong)
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
(with) these
ٱلْقَوْمِ
[the] people
لَا
not
يَكَادُونَ
do they seem
يَفْقَهُونَ
(to) understand
حَدِيثًا
any statement

Ainamaa takoonoo yudrikkumul mawtu wa law kuntum fee buroojim mushai yadah; wa in tusibhum hasanatuny yaqooloo haazihee min indil laahi wa in tusibhum saiyi'atuny yaqooloo haazihee min 'indik; qul kullum min 'indillaahi famaa lihaaa 'ulaaa'il qawmi laa yakkaadoona yafqahoona hadeesaa

Wherever you may be, death will overtake you, even if you should be within towers of lofty construction. But if good comes to them, they say, "This is from Allah"; and if evil befalls them, they say, "This is from you." Say, "All [things] are from Allah." So what is [the matter] with those people that they can hardly understand any statement?

Tafsir

مَّآ
What(ever)
أَصَابَكَ
befalls you
مِنْ
of
حَسَنَةٍ
(the) good
فَمِنَ
(is) from
ٱللَّهِۖ
Allah
وَمَآ
and whatever
أَصَابَكَ
befalls you
مِن
of
سَيِّئَةٍ
(the) evil
فَمِن
(is) from
نَّفْسِكَۚ
yourself
وَأَرْسَلْنَٰكَ
And We have sent you
لِلنَّاسِ
for the people
رَسُولًاۚ
(as) a Messenger
وَكَفَىٰ
and is sufficient
بِٱللَّهِ
Allah
شَهِيدًا
(as) a Witness

Maaa asaabaka min hasanatin faminal laahi wa maaa asaaabaka min saiyi'atin famin nafsik; wa arsalnaaka linnaasi Rasoolaa; wa kafaa billaahi Shaheedaa

What comes to you of good is from Allah, but what comes to you of evil, [O man], is from yourself. And We have sent you, [O Muhammad], to the people as a messenger, and sufficient is Allah as Witness.

Tafsir

مَّن
(He) who
يُطِعِ
obeys
ٱلرَّسُولَ
the Messenger
فَقَدْ
then surely
أَطَاعَ
he obeyed
ٱللَّهَۖ
Allah
وَمَن

أَرْسَلْنَٰكَ
We (have) sent you
عَلَيْهِمْ
over them
حَفِيظًا
(as) a guardian

Man yuti'ir Rasoola faqad ataa'al laaha wa man tawallaa famaaa arsalnaaka 'alaihim hafeezaa

He who obeys the Messenger has obeyed Allah; but those who turn away – We have not sent you over them as a guardian.
