أَلَكُمُ
Is for you
ٱلذَّكَرُ
the male
وَلَهُ
and for Him
ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
the female?

A-lakumuz zakaru wa lahul unsaa

Is the male for you and for Him the female?

Tafsir

تِلْكَ
This
إِذًا
then
قِسْمَةٌ
(is) a division
ضِيزَىٰٓ
unfair

Tilka izan qismatun deezaa

That, then, is an unjust division.

Tafsir

إِنْ
Not
هِىَ
they
إِلَّآ
(are) except
أَسْمَآءٌ
names
سَمَّيْتُمُوهَآ
you have named them
أَنتُمْ
you
وَءَابَآؤُكُم
and your forefathers
مَّآ
not
أَنزَلَ
has Allah sent down
ٱللَّهُ
has Allah sent down
بِهَا
for it
مِن
any
سُلْطَٰنٍۚ
authority
إِن
Not
يَتَّبِعُونَ
they follow
إِلَّا
except
ٱلظَّنَّ
assumption
وَمَا
and what
تَهْوَى
desire
ٱلْأَنفُسُۖ
the(ir) souls
وَلَقَدْ
And certainly
جَآءَهُم
has come to them
مِّن
from
رَّبِّهِمُ
their Lord
ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ
the guidance

In hiya illaaa asmaaa'un sammaitumoohaaa antum wa aabaaa'ukum maaa anzalal laahu bihaa min sultaan; inyyattabi'oona illaz zanna wa maa tahwal anfusu wa laqad jaaa'ahum mir Rabbihimul hudaa

They are not but [mere] names you have named them – you and your forefathers – for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance.

Tafsir

أَمْ
Or
لِلْإِنسَٰنِ
(is) for man
مَا
what
تَمَنَّىٰ
he wishes?

Am lil insaani maa taman naa

Or is there for man whatever he wishes?

Tafsir

فَلِلَّهِ
But for Allah
ٱلْءَاخِرَةُ
(is) the last
وَٱلْأُولَىٰ
and the first

Falillaahil aakhiratu wal oolaa

Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life].

Tafsir

وَكَم
And how many
مِّن
of
مَّلَكٍ
(the) Angels
فِى
in
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
لَا
not
تُغْنِى
will avail
شَفَٰعَتُهُمْ
their intercession
شَيْـًٔا
anything
إِلَّا
except
مِنۢ
after
بَعْدِ
after
أَن
[that]
يَأْذَنَ
Allah has given permission
ٱللَّهُ
Allah has given permission
لِمَن
for whom
يَشَآءُ
He wills
وَيَرْضَىٰٓ
and approves

Wa kam mim malakin fissamaawaati laa tughnee shafaa'atuhum shai'an illaa mim ba'di anyyaazanal laahu limany yashaaa'u wa yardaa

And how many angels there are in the heavens whose intercession will not avail at all except [only] after Allah has permitted [it] to whom He wills and approves.

Tafsir

إِنَّ
Indeed
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
لَا
(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَ
believe
بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ
in the Hereafter
لَيُسَمُّونَ
surely they name
ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةَ
the Angels
تَسْمِيَةَ
name(s)
ٱلْأُنثَىٰ
(of) female

innal lazeena laa yu'minoona bil aakhirati la yusammoonal malaaa'ikata tasmiyatal unsaa

Indeed, those who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels female names,

Tafsir

وَمَا
And not
لَهُم
for them
بِهِۦ
about it
مِنْ
any
عِلْمٍۖ
knowledge
إِن
Not
يَتَّبِعُونَ
they follow
إِلَّا
but
ٱلظَّنَّۖ
assumption
وَإِنَّ
And indeed
ٱلظَّنَّ
the assumption
لَا
(does) not
يُغْنِى
avail
مِنَ
against
ٱلْحَقِّ
the truth
شَيْـًٔا
anything

Wa maa lahum bihee min 'ilmin iny yattabi'oona illaz zanna wa innaz zanna laa yughnee minal haqqi shai'aa

And they have thereof no knowledge. They follow not except assumption, and indeed, assumption avails not against the truth at all.

Tafsir

فَأَعْرِضْ
So turn away
عَن
from
مَّن
(him) who
تَوَلَّىٰ
turns away
عَن
from
ذِكْرِنَا
Our Reminder
وَلَمْ
and not
يُرِدْ
he desires
إِلَّا
except
ٱلْحَيَوٰةَ
the life
ٱلدُّنْيَا
(of) the world

Fa a'rid 'am man tawallaa 'an zikrinaa wa lam yurid illal hayaatad dunyaa

So turn away from whoever turns his back on Our message and desires not except the worldly life.

Tafsir

ذَٰلِكَ
That
مَبْلَغُهُم
(is) their sum
مِّنَ
of
ٱلْعِلْمِۚ
knowledge
إِنَّ
Indeed
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
هُوَ
(is) He (Who)
أَعْلَمُ
knows best
بِمَن
(he) who
ضَلَّ
strays
عَن
from
سَبِيلِهِۦ
His Path
وَهُوَ
and He
أَعْلَمُ
knows best
بِمَنِ
(he) who
ٱهْتَدَىٰ
is guided

Zalika mablaghuhum minal 'ilm; inna rabbaka huwa a'lamu biman dalla 'an sabee lihee wa huwa a'lamu bimanih tadaa

That is their sum of knowledge. Indeed, your Lord is most knowing of who strays from His way, and He is most knowing of who is guided.
