وَكَمْ قَصَمْنَا مِنْ قَرْيَةٍ كَانَتْ ظَالِمَةً وَّاَنْشَأْنَا بَعْدَهَا قَوْمًا اٰخَرِيْنَ   ( الأنبياء: ١١ )

وَكَمْ
And how many
qaṣamnā
قَصَمْنَا
We (have) shattered
min
مِن
of
qaryatin
قَرْيَةٍ
a town
kānat
كَانَتْ
(that) was
ẓālimatan
ظَالِمَةً
unjust
wa-anshanā
وَأَنشَأْنَا
and We produced
baʿdahā
بَعْدَهَا
after them
qawman
قَوْمًا
another people
ākharīna
ءَاخَرِينَ
another people

And how many a city which was unjust have We shattered and produced after it another people.

Tafsir

فَلَمَّآ اَحَسُّوْا بَأْسَنَآ اِذَا هُمْ مِّنْهَا يَرْكُضُوْنَ ۗ  ( الأنبياء: ١٢ )

falammā
فَلَمَّآ
Then when
aḥassū
أَحَسُّوا۟
they perceived
basanā
بَأْسَنَآ
Our torment
idhā
إِذَا
behold
hum
هُم
they
min'hā
مِّنْهَا
from it
yarkuḍūna
يَرْكُضُونَ
were fleeing

And when they [i.e., its inhabitants] perceived Our punishment, at once they fled from it.

Tafsir

لَا تَرْكُضُوْا وَارْجِعُوْٓا اِلٰى مَآ اُتْرِفْتُمْ فِيْهِ وَمَسٰكِنِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُسْـَٔلُوْنَ   ( الأنبياء: ١٣ )

لَا
Flee not
tarkuḍū
تَرْكُضُوا۟
Flee not
wa-ir'jiʿū
وَٱرْجِعُوٓا۟
but return
ilā
إِلَىٰ
to
مَآ
what
ut'rif'tum
أُتْرِفْتُمْ
you were given luxury
fīhi
فِيهِ
in it
wamasākinikum
وَمَسَٰكِنِكُمْ
and to your homes
laʿallakum
لَعَلَّكُمْ
so that you may
tus'alūna
تُسْـَٔلُونَ
be questioned

[Some angels said], "Do not flee but return to where you were given luxury and to your homes – perhaps you will be questioned."

Tafsir

قَالُوْا يٰوَيْلَنَآ اِنَّا كُنَّا ظٰلِمِيْنَ   ( الأنبياء: ١٤ )

قَالُوا۟
They said
yāwaylanā
يَٰوَيْلَنَآ
"O woe to us!
innā
إِنَّا
Indeed [we]
kunnā
كُنَّا
we were
ẓālimīna
ظَٰلِمِينَ
wrongdoers"

They said, "O woe to us! Indeed, we were wrongdoers."

Tafsir

فَمَا زَالَتْ تِّلْكَ دَعْوٰىهُمْ حَتّٰى جَعَلْنٰهُمْ حَصِيْدًا خَامِدِيْنَ   ( الأنبياء: ١٥ )

فَمَا
Then not
zālat
زَالَت
ceased
til'ka
تِّلْكَ
[this]
daʿwāhum
دَعْوَىٰهُمْ
their cry
ḥattā
حَتَّىٰ
until
jaʿalnāhum
جَعَلْنَٰهُمْ
We made them
ḥaṣīdan
حَصِيدًا
reaped
khāmidīna
خَٰمِدِينَ
extinct

And that declaration of theirs did not cease until We made them [as] a harvest [mowed down], extinguished [like a fire].

Tafsir

وَمَا خَلَقْنَا السَّمَاۤءَ وَالْاَرْضَ وَمَا بَيْنَهُمَا لٰعِبِيْنَ   ( الأنبياء: ١٦ )

wamā
وَمَا
And not
khalaqnā
خَلَقْنَا
We created
l-samāa
ٱلسَّمَآءَ
the heavens
wal-arḍa
وَٱلْأَرْضَ
and the earth
wamā
وَمَا
and what
baynahumā
بَيْنَهُمَا
(is) between them
lāʿibīna
لَٰعِبِينَ
(for) playing

And We did not create the heaven and earth and that between them in play.

Tafsir

لَوْ اَرَدْنَآ اَنْ نَّتَّخِذَ لَهْوًا لَّاتَّخَذْنٰهُ مِنْ لَّدُنَّآ ۖاِنْ كُنَّا فٰعِلِيْنَ   ( الأنبياء: ١٧ )

أَرَدْنَآ
We intended
an
أَن
that
nattakhidha
نَّتَّخِذَ
We take
lahwan
لَهْوًا
a pastime
la-ittakhadhnāhu
لَّٱتَّخَذْنَٰهُ
surely We (could have) taken it
min
مِن
from
ladunnā
لَّدُنَّآ
Us
in
إِن
if
kunnā
كُنَّا
We were
fāʿilīna
فَٰعِلِينَ
doers

Had We intended to take a diversion, We could have taken it from [what is] with Us – if [indeed] We were to do so.

Tafsir

بَلْ نَقْذِفُ بِالْحَقِّ عَلَى الْبَاطِلِ فَيَدْمَغُهٗ فَاِذَا هُوَ زَاهِقٌۗ وَلَكُمُ الْوَيْلُ مِمَّا تَصِفُوْنَ   ( الأنبياء: ١٨ )

Nay
naqdhifu
نَقْذِفُ
We hurl
bil-ḥaqi
بِٱلْحَقِّ
the truth
ʿalā
عَلَى
against
l-bāṭili
ٱلْبَٰطِلِ
[the] falsehood
fayadmaghuhu
فَيَدْمَغُهُۥ
and it breaks its head
fa-idhā
فَإِذَا
behold
huwa
هُوَ
it (is)
zāhiqun
زَاهِقٌۚ
vanishing
walakumu
وَلَكُمُ
And for you
l-waylu
ٱلْوَيْلُ
(is) destruction
mimmā
مِمَّا
for what
taṣifūna
تَصِفُونَ
you ascribe

Rather, We dash the truth upon falsehood, and it destroys it, and thereupon it departs. And for you is destruction from that which you describe.

Tafsir

وَلَهٗ مَنْ فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضِۗ وَمَنْ عِنْدَهٗ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُوْنَ عَنْ عِبَادَتِهٖ وَلَا يَسْتَحْسِرُوْنَ ۚ  ( الأنبياء: ١٩ )

وَلَهُۥ
And to Him (belongs)
man
مَن
whoever
فِى
(is) in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wal-arḍi
وَٱلْأَرْضِۚ
and the earth
waman
وَمَنْ
And (those) who
ʿindahu
عِندَهُۥ
(are) near Him
لَا
not
yastakbirūna
يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
they are arrogant
ʿan
عَنْ
to
ʿibādatihi
عِبَادَتِهِۦ
worship Him
walā
وَلَا
and not
yastaḥsirūna
يَسْتَحْسِرُونَ
they tire

To Him belongs whoever is in the heavens and the earth. And those near Him [i.e., the angels] are not prevented by arrogance from His worship, nor do they tire.

Tafsir

يُسَبِّحُوْنَ الَّيْلَ وَالنَّهَارَ لَا يَفْتُرُوْنَ   ( الأنبياء: ٢٠ )

yusabbiḥūna
يُسَبِّحُونَ
They glorify (Him)
al-layla
ٱلَّيْلَ
[the] night
wal-nahāra
وَٱلنَّهَارَ
and [the] day
لَا
not
yafturūna
يَفْتُرُونَ
they slacken

They exalt [Him] night and day [and] do not slacken.
