وَلِلّٰهِ مَا فِى السَّمٰوٰتِ وَمَا فِى الْاَرْضِۗ لِيَجْزِيَ الَّذِيْنَ اَسَاۤءُوْا بِمَا عَمِلُوْا وَيَجْزِيَ الَّذِيْنَ اَحْسَنُوْا بِالْحُسْنٰىۚ   ( النجم: ٣١ )

walillahi
وَلِلَّهِ
And for Allah
مَا
(is) whatever
فِى
(is) in
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wamā
وَمَا
and whatever
فِى
(is) in
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
liyajziya
لِيَجْزِىَ
that He may recompense
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
asāū
أَسَٰٓـُٔوا۟
do evil
bimā
بِمَا
with what
ʿamilū
عَمِلُوا۟
they have done
wayajziya
وَيَجْزِىَ
and recompense
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
aḥsanū
أَحْسَنُوا۟
do good
bil-ḥus'nā
بِٱلْحُسْنَى
with the best

And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth – that He may recompense those who do evil with [the penalty of] what they have done and recompense those who do good with the best [reward] –

Tafsir

اَلَّذِيْنَ يَجْتَنِبُوْنَ كَبٰۤىِٕرَ الْاِثْمِ وَالْفَوَاحِشَ اِلَّا اللَّمَمَۙ اِنَّ رَبَّكَ وَاسِعُ الْمَغْفِرَةِۗ هُوَ اَعْلَمُ بِكُمْ اِذْ اَنْشَاَكُمْ مِّنَ الْاَرْضِ وَاِذْ اَنْتُمْ اَجِنَّةٌ فِيْ بُطُوْنِ اُمَّهٰتِكُمْۗ فَلَا تُزَكُّوْٓا اَنْفُسَكُمْۗ هُوَ اَعْلَمُ بِمَنِ اتَّقٰى ࣖ   ( النجم: ٣٢ )

alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
yajtanibūna
يَجْتَنِبُونَ
avoid
kabāira
كَبَٰٓئِرَ
great
l-ith'mi
ٱلْإِثْمِ
sins
wal-fawāḥisha
وَٱلْفَوَٰحِشَ
and the immoralities
illā
إِلَّا
except
l-lamama
ٱللَّمَمَۚ
the small faults
inna
إِنَّ
indeed
rabbaka
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
wāsiʿu
وَٰسِعُ
(is) vast
l-maghfirati
ٱلْمَغْفِرَةِۚ
(in) forgiveness
huwa
هُوَ
He
aʿlamu
أَعْلَمُ
(is) most knowing about you
bikum
بِكُمْ
(is) most knowing about you
idh
إِذْ
when
ansha-akum
أَنشَأَكُم
He produced you
mina
مِّنَ
from
l-arḍi
ٱلْأَرْضِ
the earth
wa-idh
وَإِذْ
and when
antum
أَنتُمْ
you (were)
ajinnatun
أَجِنَّةٌ
fetuses
فِى
in
buṭūni
بُطُونِ
(the) wombs
ummahātikum
أُمَّهَٰتِكُمْۖ
(of) your mothers
falā
فَلَا
So (do) not
tuzakkū
تُزَكُّوٓا۟
ascribe purity
anfusakum
أَنفُسَكُمْۖ
(to) yourselves
huwa
هُوَ
He
aʿlamu
أَعْلَمُ
knows best
bimani
بِمَنِ
(he) who
ittaqā
ٱتَّقَىٰٓ
fears

Those who avoid the major sins and immoralities, only [committing] slight ones. Indeed, your Lord is vast in forgiveness. He was most knowing of you when He produced you from the earth and when you were fetuses in the wombs of your mothers. So do not claim yourselves to be pure; He is most knowing of who fears Him.

Tafsir

اَفَرَءَيْتَ الَّذِيْ تَوَلّٰىۙ   ( النجم: ٣٣ )

afara-ayta
أَفَرَءَيْتَ
Did you see
alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
the one who
tawallā
تَوَلَّىٰ
turned away

Have you seen the one who turned away

Tafsir

وَاَعْطٰى قَلِيْلًا وَّاَكْدٰى   ( النجم: ٣٤ )

wa-aʿṭā
وَأَعْطَىٰ
And gave
qalīlan
قَلِيلًا
a little
wa-akdā
وَأَكْدَىٰٓ
and withheld?

And gave a little and [then] refrained?

Tafsir

اَعِنْدَهٗ عِلْمُ الْغَيْبِ فَهُوَ يَرٰى   ( النجم: ٣٥ )

aʿindahu
أَعِندَهُۥ
Is with him
ʿil'mu
عِلْمُ
(the) knowledge
l-ghaybi
ٱلْغَيْبِ
(of) the unseen
fahuwa
فَهُوَ
so he
yarā
يَرَىٰٓ
sees?

Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees?

Tafsir

اَمْ لَمْ يُنَبَّأْ بِمَا فِيْ صُحُفِ مُوْسٰى   ( النجم: ٣٦ )

am
أَمْ
Or
lam
لَمْ
not
yunabba
يُنَبَّأْ
he was informed
bimā
بِمَا
with what
فِى
(was) in
ṣuḥufi
صُحُفِ
(the) Scriptures
mūsā
مُوسَىٰ
(of) Musa

Or has he not been informed of what was in the scriptures of Moses

Tafsir

وَاِبْرٰهِيْمَ الَّذِيْ وَفّٰىٓ ۙ   ( النجم: ٣٧ )

wa-ib'rāhīma
وَإِبْرَٰهِيمَ
And Ibrahim
alladhī
ٱلَّذِى
who
waffā
وَفَّىٰٓ
fulfilled?

And [of] Abraham, who fulfilled [his obligations] –

Tafsir

اَلَّا تَزِرُ وَازِرَةٌ وِّزْرَ اُخْرٰىۙ   ( النجم: ٣٨ )

allā
أَلَّا
That not
taziru
تَزِرُ
will bear
wāziratun
وَازِرَةٌ
a bearer of burdens
wiz'ra
وِزْرَ
(the) burden
ukh'rā
أُخْرَىٰ
(of) another

That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another

Tafsir

وَاَنْ لَّيْسَ لِلْاِنْسَانِ اِلَّا مَا سَعٰىۙ   ( النجم: ٣٩ )

wa-an
وَأَن
And that
laysa
لَّيْسَ
is not
lil'insāni
لِلْإِنسَٰنِ
for man
illā
إِلَّا
except
مَا
what
saʿā
سَعَىٰ
he strives (for)

And that there is not for man except that [good] for which he strives

Tafsir

وَاَنَّ سَعْيَهٗ سَوْفَ يُرٰىۖ  ( النجم: ٤٠ )

wa-anna
وَأَنَّ
And that
saʿyahu
سَعْيَهُۥ
his striving
sawfa
سَوْفَ
will soon
yurā
يُرَىٰ
be seen

And that his effort is going to be seen –
