وَكَيْفَ
And how
أَخَافُ
could I fear
مَآ
what
أَشْرَكْتُمْ
you associate (with Allah)
وَلَا
while not
تَخَافُونَ
you fear
أَنَّكُمْ
that you
أَشْرَكْتُم
have associated
بِٱللَّهِ
with Allah
مَا
what
لَمْ
not
يُنَزِّلْ
did He send down
بِهِۦ
for it
عَلَيْكُمْ
to you
سُلْطَٰنًاۚ
any authority
فَأَىُّ
So which
ٱلْفَرِيقَيْنِ
(of) the two parties
أَحَقُّ
has more right
بِٱلْأَمْنِۖ
to security
إِن
if
كُنتُمْ
you
تَعْلَمُونَ
know?"

Wa kaifa akhaafu maaa ashraktum wa laa takhaafoona annakum ashraktum billaahi maa lam yunazzil bihee 'alaikum sultaanaa; fa aiyul fareeqaini ahaqqu bil amni in kuntum ta'lamoon

And how should I fear what you associate while you do not fear that you have associated with Allah that for which He has not sent down to you any authority? So which of the two parties has more right to security, if you should know?"

Tafsir

ٱلَّذِينَ
Those who
ءَامَنُوا۟
believed
وَلَمْ
and (did) not
يَلْبِسُوٓا۟
mix
إِيمَٰنَهُم
their belief
بِظُلْمٍ
with wrong
أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
those
لَهُمُ
for them
ٱلْأَمْنُ
(is) the security
وَهُم
and they
مُّهْتَدُونَ
(are) rightly guided

Allazeena aamanoo wa lam yalbisooo eemaanahum bizulmin ulaaa'ika lahumul amnu wa hum muhtadoon

They who believe and do not mix their belief with injustice – those will have security, and they are [rightly] guided.

Tafsir

وَتِلْكَ
And this
حُجَّتُنَآ
(is) Our argument
ءَاتَيْنَٰهَآ
We gave it
إِبْرَٰهِيمَ
(to) Ibrahim
عَلَىٰ
against
قَوْمِهِۦۚ
his people
نَرْفَعُ
We raise
دَرَجَٰتٍ
(by) degrees
مَّن
whom
نَّشَآءُۗ
We will
إِنَّ
Indeed
رَبَّكَ
your Lord
حَكِيمٌ
(is) All-Wise
عَلِيمٌ
All-Knowing

Wa tilka hujjatunaaa aatainaahaaa Ibraaheema 'alaa qawmih; narfa'u darajaatim man nashaaa'; inna Rabbaka Hakeemun 'Aleem

And that was Our [conclusive] argument which We gave Abraham against his people. We raise by degrees whom We will. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing.

وَوَهَبْنَا
And We bestowed
لَهُۥٓ
to him
إِسْحَٰقَ
Ishaq
وَيَعْقُوبَۚ

كُلًّا
all
هَدَيْنَاۚ
We guided

And Nuh
هَدَيْنَا
We guided

وَيُوسُفَ
and Yusuf
وَمُوسَىٰ
and Musa
وَهَٰرُونَۚ
and Harun
وَكَذَٰلِكَ
And thus
نَجْزِى
We reward
ٱلْمُحْسِنِينَ
the good-doers

And We gave to him [i.e., Abraham] Isaac and Jacob – all [of them] We guided. And Noah, We guided before; and among his descendants, David and Solomon and Job and Joseph and Moses and Aaron. Thus do We reward the doers of good.

Tafsir

ٱلصَّٰلِحِينَ
the righteous

Wa Zakariyyaa wa Yahyaa wa 'Eesaa wa Illyaasa kullum minas saaliheen

And Zechariah and John and Jesus and Elias – and all were of the righteous.

Tafsir

وَإِسْمَٰعِيلَ
And Ismail
وَٱلْيَسَعَ
and Al-Yasaa
وَيُونُسَ
and Yunus
وَلُوطًاۚ
and Lut
وَكُلًّا
and all
فَضَّلْنَا
We preferred

over
ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ
the worlds

Wa Ismaa'eela wal Yasa'a wa Yoonusa wa Lootaa; wa kullan faddalnaa 'alal 'aalameen

And Ishmael and Elisha and Jonah and Lot – and all [of them] We preferred over the worlds.

Tafsir

وَمِنْ
And from
ءَابَآئِهِمْ
their fathers
وَذُرِّيَّٰتِهِمْ
and their descendents
وَإِخْوَٰنِهِمْۖ

a path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍ
straight

Wa min aabaaa'ihim wa zurriyyaatihim wa ikhwaanihim wajtabainaahum wa hadainaahum ilaa Siraatim Mustaqeem

And [some] among their fathers and their descendants and their brothers – and We chose them and We guided them to a straight path.

Tafsir

ذَٰلِكَ
That
هُدَى
(is the) Guidance
ٱللَّهِ
(of) Allah
يَهْدِى
He guides
بِهِۦ
with it
مَن
whom
يَشَآءُ
He wills
مِنْ
of
عِبَادِهِۦۚ
His slaves
وَلَوْ
But if
أَشْرَكُوا۟
they (had) associated partners (with Allah)
لَحَبِطَ
surely (would be) worthless
عَنْهُم
for them
مَّا
what
كَانُوا۟
they used to
يَعْمَلُونَ
do

Zaalika hudal laahi yahdee bihee mai yashaaa'u min 'ibaadih; wa law ashrakoo lahabita 'anhum maa kaanoo ya'maloon

That is the guidance of Allah by which He guides whomever He wills of His servants. But if they had associated others with Allah, then worthless for them would be whatever they were doing.

Tafsir

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those -
ٱلَّذِينَ
(are) ones whom
ءَاتَيْنَٰهُمُ
We gave them
ٱلْكِتَٰبَ
the Book
وَٱلْحُكْمَ
and the judgment
وَٱلنُّبُوَّةَۚ
and the Prophethood
فَإِن
But if
يَكْفُرْ
disbelieve
بِهَا
in it
هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ
these
فَقَدْ
then indeed
وَكَّلْنَا
We have entrusted
بِهَا
it
قَوْمًا
(to) a people
لَّيْسُوا۟
who are not
بِهَا
therein
بِكَٰفِرِينَ
disbelievers

Ulaaa'ikal lazeena aatainaahumul Kitaaba wal hukma wan Nubuwwah; fa iny yakfur bihaa haaa'ulaaa'i faqad wakkalnaa bihaa qawmal laisoo bihaa bikaafireen

Those are the ones to whom We gave the Scripture and authority and prophethood. But if they [i.e., the disbelievers] deny it, then We have entrusted it to a people who are not therein disbelievers.

Tafsir

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ
Those
ٱلَّذِينَ
(are) ones whom
هَدَى
(have been) guided
ٱللَّهُۖ

so of their guidance

لِلْعَٰلَمِينَ
for the worlds"

Ulaaa'ikal lazeena hadal laahu fabihudaahumuq tadih; qul laaa as'alukum 'alaihi ajran in huwa illaa zikraa lil 'aalameen

Those are the ones whom Allah has guided, so from their guidance take an example. Say, "I ask of you for it [i.e., this message] no payment. It is not but a reminder for the worlds."
