قُلْ تَرَبَّصُوْا فَاِنِّيْ مَعَكُمْ مِّنَ الْمُتَرَبِّصِيْنَۗ   ( الطور: ٣١ )

qul
قُلْ
Say
tarabbaṣū
تَرَبَّصُوا۟
"Wait
fa-innī
فَإِنِّى
for indeed I am
maʿakum
مَعَكُم
with you
mina
مِّنَ
among
l-mutarabiṣīna
ٱلْمُتَرَبِّصِينَ
those who wait"

Say, "Wait, for indeed I am, with you, among the waiters."

Tafsir

اَمْ تَأْمُرُهُمْ اَحْلَامُهُمْ بِهٰذَآ اَمْ هُمْ قَوْمٌ طَاغُوْنَۚ   ( الطور: ٣٢ )

am
أَمْ
Or
tamuruhum
تَأْمُرُهُمْ
command them
aḥlāmuhum
أَحْلَٰمُهُم
their minds
bihādhā
بِهَٰذَآۚ
this
am
أَمْ
or
hum
هُمْ
they
qawmun
قَوْمٌ
(are) a people
ṭāghūna
طَاغُونَ
transgressing?

Or do their minds command them to [say] this, or are they a transgressing people?

Tafsir

اَمْ يَقُوْلُوْنَ تَقَوَّلَهٗۚ بَلْ لَّا يُؤْمِنُوْنَۚ   ( الطور: ٣٣ )

am
أَمْ
Or
yaqūlūna
يَقُولُونَ
(do) they say
taqawwalahu
تَقَوَّلَهُۥۚ
"He has made it up"
bal
بَل
Nay
لَّا
not
yu'minūna
يُؤْمِنُونَ
they believe

Or do they say, "He has made it up"? Rather, they do not believe.

Tafsir

فَلْيَأْتُوْا بِحَدِيْثٍ مِّثْلِهٖٓ اِنْ كَانُوْا صٰدِقِيْنَۗ   ( الطور: ٣٤ )

falyatū
فَلْيَأْتُوا۟
Then let them bring
biḥadīthin
بِحَدِيثٍ
a statement
mith'lihi
مِّثْلِهِۦٓ
like it
in
إِن
if
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they
ṣādiqīna
صَٰدِقِينَ
(are) truthful

Then let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.

Tafsir

اَمْ خُلِقُوْا مِنْ غَيْرِ شَيْءٍ اَمْ هُمُ الْخَالِقُوْنَۗ   ( الطور: ٣٥ )

Or
khuliqū
خُلِقُوا۟
were they created
min
مِنْ
of
ghayri
غَيْرِ
nothing
shayin
شَىْءٍ
nothing
am
أَمْ
or
humu
هُمُ
(are) they
l-khāliqūna
ٱلْخَٰلِقُونَ
the creators?

Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]?

Tafsir

اَمْ خَلَقُوا السَّمٰوٰتِ وَالْاَرْضَۚ بَلْ لَّا يُوْقِنُوْنَۗ   ( الطور: ٣٦ )

am
أَمْ
Or
khalaqū
خَلَقُوا۟
(did) they create
l-samāwāti
ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ
the heavens
wal-arḍa
وَٱلْأَرْضَۚ
and the earth?
bal
بَل
Nay
لَّا
not
yūqinūna
يُوقِنُونَ
they are certain

Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.

Tafsir

اَمْ عِنْدَهُمْ خَزَاۤىِٕنُ رَبِّكَ اَمْ هُمُ الْمُصَۣيْطِرُوْنَۗ   ( الطور: ٣٧ )

am
أَمْ
Or
ʿindahum
عِندَهُمْ
with them
khazāinu
خَزَآئِنُ
(are the) treasures
rabbika
رَبِّكَ
(of) your Lord
am
أَمْ
or
humu
هُمُ
(are) they
l-muṣayṭirūna
ٱلْمُصَۣيْطِرُونَ
the controllers?

Or have they the depositories [containing the provision] of your Lord? Or are they the controllers [of them]?

Tafsir

اَمْ لَهُمْ سُلَّمٌ يَّسْتَمِعُوْنَ فِيْهِۚ فَلْيَأْتِ مُسْتَمِعُهُمْ بِسُلْطٰنٍ مُّبِيْنٍۗ   ( الطور: ٣٨ )

am
أَمْ
Or
lahum
لَهُمْ
for them
sullamun
سُلَّمٌ
(is) a stairway
yastamiʿūna
يَسْتَمِعُونَ
they listen
fīhi
فِيهِۖ
therewith?
falyati
فَلْيَأْتِ
Then let bring
mus'tamiʿuhum
مُسْتَمِعُهُم
their listener
bisul'ṭānin
بِسُلْطَٰنٍ
an authority
mubīnin
مُّبِينٍ
clear

Or have they a stairway [into the heaven] upon which they listen? Then let their listener produce a clear authority [i.e., proof].

Tafsir

اَمْ لَهُ الْبَنٰتُ وَلَكُمُ الْبَنُوْنَۗ   ( الطور: ٣٩ )

am
أَمْ
Or
lahu
لَهُ
for Him
l-banātu
ٱلْبَنَٰتُ
(are) daughters
walakumu
وَلَكُمُ
while for you
l-banūna
ٱلْبَنُونَ
(are) sons?

Or has He daughters while you have sons?

Tafsir

اَمْ تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ اَجْرًا فَهُمْ مِّنْ مَّغْرَمٍ مُّثْقَلُوْنَۗ   ( الطور: ٤٠ )

am
أَمْ
Or
tasaluhum
تَسْـَٔلُهُمْ
(do) you ask from them
ajran
أَجْرًا
a payment
fahum
فَهُم
so they
min
مِّن
from
maghramin
مَّغْرَمٍ
a debt
muth'qalūna
مُّثْقَلُونَ
(are) overburdened

Or do you, [O Muhammad], ask of them a payment, so they are by debt burdened down?
