قَالَ فَأْتِ بِهٖٓ اِنْ كُنْتَ مِنَ الصّٰدِقِيْنَ  ( الشعراء: ٣١ )

qāla
قَالَ
He said
fati
فَأْتِ
"Then bring
bihi
بِهِۦٓ
it
in
إِن
if
kunta
كُنتَ
you are
mina
مِنَ
of
l-ṣādiqīna
ٱلصَّٰدِقِينَ
the truthful"

[Pharaoh] said, "Then bring it, if you should be of the truthful."

Tafsir

فَاَلْقٰى عَصَاهُ فَاِذَا هِيَ ثُعْبَانٌ مُّبِيْنٌ ۚ   ( الشعراء: ٣٢ )

fa-alqā
فَأَلْقَىٰ
So he threw
ʿaṣāhu
عَصَاهُ
his staff
fa-idhā
فَإِذَا
and behold!
hiya
هِىَ
It
thuʿ'bānun
ثُعْبَانٌ
(was) a serpent
mubīnun
مُّبِينٌ
manifest

So [Moses] threw his staff, and suddenly it was a serpent manifest.

Tafsir

وَنَزَعَ يَدَهٗ فَاِذَا هِيَ بَيْضَاۤءُ لِلنّٰظِرِيْنَ ࣖ   ( الشعراء: ٣٣ )

wanazaʿa
وَنَزَعَ
And he drew out
yadahu
يَدَهُۥ
his hand
fa-idhā
فَإِذَا
and behold!
hiya
هِىَ
It
bayḍāu
بَيْضَآءُ
(was) white
lilnnāẓirīna
لِلنَّٰظِرِينَ
for the observers

And he drew out his hand; thereupon it was white for the observers.

Tafsir

قَالَ لِلْمَلَاِ حَوْلَهٗٓ اِنَّ هٰذَا لَسٰحِرٌ عَلِيْمٌ ۙ   ( الشعراء: ٣٤ )

قَالَ
He said
lil'mala-i
لِلْمَلَإِ
to the chiefs
ḥawlahu
حَوْلَهُۥٓ
around him
inna
إِنَّ
"Indeed
hādhā
هَٰذَا
this
lasāḥirun
لَسَٰحِرٌ
(is) surely a magician
ʿalīmun
عَلِيمٌ
learned

[Pharaoh] said to the eminent ones around him, "Indeed, this is a learned magician.

Tafsir

يُّرِيْدُ اَنْ يُّخْرِجَكُمْ مِّنْ اَرْضِكُمْ بِسِحْرِهٖۖ فَمَاذَا تَأْمُرُوْنَ   ( الشعراء: ٣٥ )

yurīdu
يُرِيدُ
He wants
an
أَن
to
yukh'rijakum
يُخْرِجَكُم
drive you out
min
مِّنْ
from
arḍikum
أَرْضِكُم
your land
bisiḥ'rihi
بِسِحْرِهِۦ
by his magic
famādhā
فَمَاذَا
so what
tamurūna
تَأْمُرُونَ
(do) you advise?"

He wants to drive you out of your land by his magic, so what do you advise?"

Tafsir

قَالُوْٓا اَرْجِهْ وَاَخَاهُ وَابْعَثْ فِى الْمَدَاۤىِٕنِ حٰشِرِيْنَ ۙ   ( الشعراء: ٣٦ )

قَالُوٓا۟
They said
arjih
أَرْجِهْ
"Post pone him
wa-akhāhu
وَأَخَاهُ
and his brother
wa-ib'ʿath
وَٱبْعَثْ
and send
فِى
in
l-madāini
ٱلْمَدَآئِنِ
the cities
ḥāshirīna
حَٰشِرِينَ
gatherers -

They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers

Tafsir

يَأْتُوْكَ بِكُلِّ سَحَّارٍ عَلِيْمٍ   ( الشعراء: ٣٧ )

yatūka
يَأْتُوكَ
They (will) bring to you
bikulli
بِكُلِّ
every
saḥḥārin
سَحَّارٍ
magician
ʿalīmin
عَلِيمٍ
learned"

Who will bring you every learned, skilled magician."

Tafsir

فَجُمِعَ السَّحَرَةُ لِمِيْقَاتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُوْمٍ ۙ   ( الشعراء: ٣٨ )

fajumiʿa
فَجُمِعَ
So were assembled
l-saḥaratu
ٱلسَّحَرَةُ
the magicians
limīqāti
لِمِيقَٰتِ
for (the) appointment
yawmin
يَوْمٍ
(on) a day
maʿlūmin
مَّعْلُومٍ
well-known

So the magicians were assembled for the appointment of a well-known day.

Tafsir

وَّقِيْلَ لِلنَّاسِ هَلْ اَنْتُمْ مُّجْتَمِعُوْنَ ۙ   ( الشعراء: ٣٩ )

waqīla
وَقِيلَ
And it was said
lilnnāsi
لِلنَّاسِ
to the people
hal
هَلْ
"Will
antum
أَنتُم
you
muj'tamiʿūna
مُّجْتَمِعُونَ
assemble

And it was said to the people, "Will you congregate.

Tafsir

لَعَلَّنَا نَتَّبِعُ السَّحَرَةَ اِنْ كَانُوْا هُمُ الْغٰلِبِيْنَ   ( الشعراء: ٤٠ )

laʿallanā
لَعَلَّنَا
That we may
nattabiʿu
نَتَّبِعُ
follow
l-saḥarata
ٱلسَّحَرَةَ
the magicians
in
إِن
if
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they are
humu
هُمُ
they are
l-ghālibīna
ٱلْغَٰلِبِينَ
the victorious?"

That we might follow the magicians if they are the predominant?"

Tafsir
