وَاٰيَةٌ لَّهُمْ اَنَّا حَمَلْنَا ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ فِى الْفُلْكِ الْمَشْحُوْنِۙ  ( يس: ٤١ )

waāyatun
وَءَايَةٌ
And a Sign
lahum
لَّهُمْ
for them
annā
أَنَّا
(is) that
ḥamalnā
حَمَلْنَا
We carried
dhurriyyatahum
ذُرِّيَّتَهُمْ
their offspring
فِى
in
l-ful'ki
ٱلْفُلْكِ
the ship
l-mashḥūni
ٱلْمَشْحُونِ
laden

And a sign for them is that We carried their forefathers in a laden ship.

Tafsir

وَخَلَقْنَا لَهُمْ مِّنْ مِّثْلِهٖ مَا يَرْكَبُوْنَ  ( يس: ٤٢ )

wakhalaqnā
وَخَلَقْنَا
And We created
lahum
لَهُم
for them
min
مِّن
from
mith'lihi
مِّثْلِهِۦ
(the) likes of it
مَا
what
yarkabūna
يَرْكَبُونَ
they ride

And We created for them from the likes of it that which they ride.

Tafsir

وَاِنْ نَّشَأْ نُغْرِقْهُمْ فَلَا صَرِيْخَ لَهُمْ وَلَاهُمْ يُنْقَذُوْنَۙ  ( يس: ٤٣ )

wa-in
وَإِن
And if
nasha
نَّشَأْ
We will
nugh'riq'hum
نُغْرِقْهُمْ
We could drown them;
falā
فَلَا
then not
ṣarīkha
صَرِيخَ
(would be) a responder to a cry
lahum
لَهُمْ
for them
walā
وَلَا
and not
hum
هُمْ
they
yunqadhūna
يُنقَذُونَ
would be saved

And if We should will, We could drown them; then no one responding to a cry would there be for them, nor would they be saved

Tafsir

اِلَّا رَحْمَةً مِّنَّا وَمَتَاعًا اِلٰى حِيْنٍ  ( يس: ٤٤ )

illā
إِلَّا
Except
raḥmatan
رَحْمَةً
(by) Mercy
minnā
مِّنَّا
from Us
wamatāʿan
وَمَتَٰعًا
and provision
ilā
إِلَىٰ
for
ḥīnin
حِينٍ
a time

Except as a mercy from Us and provision for a time.

Tafsir

وَاِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمُ اتَّقُوْا مَا بَيْنَ اَيْدِيْكُمْ وَمَا خَلْفَكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُرْحَمُوْنَ  ( يس: ٤٥ )

wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when
qīla
قِيلَ
it is said
lahumu
لَهُمُ
to them
ittaqū
ٱتَّقُوا۟
"Fear
مَا
what
bayna
بَيْنَ
(is) before you
aydīkum
أَيْدِيكُمْ
(is) before you
wamā
وَمَا
and what
khalfakum
خَلْفَكُمْ
(is) behind you
laʿallakum
لَعَلَّكُمْ
so that you may
tur'ḥamūna
تُرْحَمُونَ
receive mercy"

But when it is said to them, "Beware of what is before you and what is behind you; perhaps you will receive mercy..."

Tafsir

وَمَا تَأْتِيْهِمْ مِّنْ اٰيَةٍ مِّنْ اٰيٰتِ رَبِّهِمْ اِلَّا كَانُوْا عَنْهَا مُعْرِضِيْنَ   ( يس: ٤٦ )

wamā
وَمَا
And not
tatīhim
تَأْتِيهِم
comes to them
min
مِّنْ
of
āyatin
ءَايَةٍ
a Sign
min
مِّنْ
from
āyāti
ءَايَٰتِ
(the) Signs
rabbihim
رَبِّهِمْ
(of) their Lord
illā
إِلَّا
but
kānū
كَانُوا۟
they
ʿanhā
عَنْهَا
from it
muʿ'riḍīna
مُعْرِضِينَ
turn away

And no sign comes to them from the signs of their Lord except that they are from it turning away.

Tafsir

وَاِذَا قِيْلَ لَهُمْ اَنْفِقُوْا مِمَّا رَزَقَكُمُ اللّٰهُ ۙقَالَ الَّذِيْنَ كَفَرُوْا لِلَّذِيْنَ اٰمَنُوْٓا اَنُطْعِمُ مَنْ لَّوْ يَشَاۤءُ اللّٰهُ اَطْعَمَهٗٓ ۖاِنْ اَنْتُمْ اِلَّا فِيْ ضَلٰلٍ مُّبِيْنٍ  ( يس: ٤٧ )

wa-idhā
وَإِذَا
And when
qīla
قِيلَ
it is said
lahum
لَهُمْ
to them
anfiqū
أَنفِقُوا۟
"Spend
mimmā
مِمَّا
from what
razaqakumu
رَزَقَكُمُ
(has) provided you
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah"
qāla
قَالَ
Said
alladhīna
ٱلَّذِينَ
those who
kafarū
كَفَرُوا۟
disbelieved
lilladhīna
لِلَّذِينَ
to those who
āmanū
ءَامَنُوٓا۟
believed
anuṭ'ʿimu
أَنُطْعِمُ
"Should we feed
man
مَن
whom
law
لَّوْ
if
yashāu
يَشَآءُ
Allah willed
l-lahu
ٱللَّهُ
Allah willed
aṭʿamahu
أَطْعَمَهُۥٓ
He would have fed him?"
in
إِنْ
Not
antum
أَنتُمْ
(are) you
illā
إِلَّا
except
فِى
in
ḍalālin
ضَلَٰلٍ
an error
mubīnin
مُّبِينٍ
clear

And when it is said to them, "Spend from that which Allah has provided for you," those who disbelieve say to those who believe, "Should we feed one whom, if Allah had willed, He would have fed? You are not but in clear error."

Tafsir

وَيَقُوْلُوْنَ مَتٰى هٰذَا الْوَعْدُ اِنْ كُنْتُمْ صٰدِقِيْنَ  ( يس: ٤٨ )

wayaqūlūna
وَيَقُولُونَ
And they say
matā
مَتَىٰ
"When (is)
hādhā
هَٰذَا
this
l-waʿdu
ٱلْوَعْدُ
promise
in
إِن
if
kuntum
كُنتُمْ
you are
ṣādiqīna
صَٰدِقِينَ
truthful?"

And they say, "When is this promise, if you should be truthful?"

Tafsir

مَا يَنْظُرُوْنَ اِلَّا صَيْحَةً وَّاحِدَةً تَأْخُذُهُمْ وَهُمْ يَخِصِّمُوْنَ  ( يس: ٤٩ )

Not
yanẓurūna
يَنظُرُونَ
they await
illā
إِلَّا
except
ṣayḥatan
صَيْحَةً
a shout
wāḥidatan
وَٰحِدَةً
one
takhudhuhum
تَأْخُذُهُمْ
it will seize them
wahum
وَهُمْ
while they
yakhiṣṣimūna
يَخِصِّمُونَ
are disputing

They do not await except one blast which will seize them while they are disputing.

Tafsir

فَلَا يَسْتَطِيْعُوْنَ تَوْصِيَةً وَّلَآ اِلٰٓى اَهْلِهِمْ يَرْجِعُوْنَ ࣖ   ( يس: ٥٠ )

falā
فَلَا
Then not
yastaṭīʿūna
يَسْتَطِيعُونَ
they will be able
tawṣiyatan
تَوْصِيَةً
(to) make a will
walā
وَلَآ
and not
ilā
إِلَىٰٓ
to
ahlihim
أَهْلِهِمْ
their people
yarjiʿūna
يَرْجِعُونَ
they (can) return

And they will not be able [to give] any instruction, nor to their people can they return.
